Back in 2018 I purchased a heavy duty 7ft landscape rake and I paid $1063 for it. i looked it up and today that same rake is right at $1700 dollars. I know that the cost of steel and other inputs has gone up a lot but I would be hard pressed to pay that much for the rake today.

As sad as it is, I think this is the new "Normal". Anything imported now has really high transportation costs. Container prices are typically 5-6 times what they were back in 2019 coming out of Asia.

Agree 100% ... Container prices went crazy long before fuel prices started rising out of control. Our company brings in containers from our facility in Japan and a typical 40' container is now over $28k

In my "good idea" note book I have plans for several DIY implements For instance a 5' tool frame for chisel teeth, cultivator teeth, homemade ride on potato planter and a number of other things..
I'm surprised some people with fabrication set ups and talents are not making 4-6 units of implements they themselves want and selling them... I would if I were a bit more organized in my set up here..
Selling 3-4-6 units to pay for your materials and getting the one you want essentially for free..

Oh I've certainly seen the prices of Made in USA implements go up as well (the price on the landscape rake I recently bought went up 20% the day after I placed my order). Not denying that.
Was just commenting on the cost of transport going up significantly implies it'll be more cost effective, even cheaper, to buy things made locally. It's also more ecologically friendly for those who care about that kind of thing!

Problem being is we drove all the American companies off shore or completely out of business.
The phrase “Made in USA” is loose at best. Some assembly of foreign parts in a warehouse seems to qualify as made in USA now.
True. However, one thing I really appreciate about "rural" life is there are a lot of smaller, US-based fabricators that make good products related to tractor implements, tools, firearms, etc. They may cost a bit more, but they're out there and good quality.
