I have a 2003 Terex HR 16, recently the machine started to overhead so i've replaced the water pump, thermostat and filters, The machine no longer over heats but after i've operated it for a while (45 minutes or longer) the machine will not turn over again for approximatley 30-45 minutes. I can hear a click when i turn the key but no engine turn over at all. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Justin.

put a meter on the small wire on the starter sol.
if you have power to this trying to start it its starter or ground. no power means something upstream of this. look at the starter relay next

Also check battery and all battery leads. A loose lead can overheat and swell fitting. Makes loose connection. When it cools down it connects again. Hand twist all connections. Also run a battery load test. Dont just test voltage. A load test will see how it handles a start up.

I will take a look this weekend, it's a new problem that's started so my gut tells me starter is going out or has heat soak issue that's damaged it.

I started with this as i'd recently replaced the battery and connections are tight and the load test checks good.

Sounds like a starter. The bearings could be worn enough to allow the armature to contact the field poles. It can also be the solenoid. When the case gets hot from previous heat cycles, it swells the windings. When it warms up again, the coil traps the plunger (piston). I don't know how hard it is to remove the starter but I would look at the solenoid first. If the solenoid comes off with 2-3 screws, pull the coil and see if there's scars on the plunger. If you're comfortable around repairs, you can piece repair the starter.

Be sure to disconnect the battery before working around the starter. There's some extremely high current potential which can weld tools to metal--While the tool burns through your hand. (Including any glove.)
