I posted the syphon hose suggestion partially in jest but with the thought that it may be true. Local home brew drug makers steal ammonia from farmers holding tanks at great physical risk to themselves so I do not have any doubt that others would not hesitate to steal fuel if they thought they could get away with it.
From following this thread, so far there has not been an answer to the excessive fuel consumption, so the fuel theft may still be possible. When I was young and living on the farm my older brother frequently filled his car from the tax free gas barrel with out our Father's knowledge.
