CalG; The entire job is done now. 100 yards of gravel spred and raked fine. It looks very good. The years had taken a toll said:How much are you paying for gravel and dirt there. Here SB2 costs me $333 and 323 ( varied because sold by weight not volume) for 14 yard dump truck load which includes hauling. I got a price for some topsoil or sand (same price for either) of $275 per load.
When tailgating gravel, the bed shouldn't be more than 1/4 way up at first, if that much. Also, truck must be level side to side, if there is much of a side slope, you have to be very careful and only lift enough to get the gravel moving towards the back.
Would you like the driver's address so you can write him the instructions?
Seems like his years of experience would result in an agreement of principles.
But how does one "be very careful" when the structure fails?

You get a lot of weight up too far on a slight angle, those things can happen.
