Exhaust Extension Tubing?

   / Exhaust Extension Tubing? #11
Our (my wife's cousin who lives next door) IH 444 blows some smoke. Original exhaust is underneith and goes out the back except that it's rotted off.... so it's an open pipe.

He's lost the breather cap on top of the hood so during operation, you will get smoke out of the breather hole.

Since it's not my machine to fix properly, I cobbed a fix. Got some fittings, put it on the breather, had some 3/4" (or was it 1"??) pvc pipe and elbows.... put collector on the spot where the breather cap belonged, piped it across the hood, another right angle to aim it down to about knee height. Now, no more smoke in the face.... until he lost those parts while driving through some entanglement (cutting) I think those parts were found in pieces later on.

A muffler shop can swage and bend a tip for you. Ask for aluminized pipe. The pipe linked from Auto Zone could only need a rain flapper in lieu.

Re-aiming the tip won't stop wind from blowing smoke into your face. :(

Both my gas ('70) and diesel ('99) Deeres had OEM down-swept exhaust like on a street bike, and they were tucked neatly below the rear axles.

My CUT's exhausts all exit near left front tires. I still get a face full of smoke now and then.
