Exhaust Fluid

I worked on the 6.7 Cummins when I was at Freightliner, and was not impressed at all. The 5.9 with a P7100 was a great engine. Please explain how we got Obama in this and tree hugger it was Ronald Reagan who fast tract the diesel pollution standards.
You show your ignorance when you spout BS, and I apoligise to everyone but when someone has to lie it gets my dandruff up.
The 6.7 in the Dodge without the DEF uses a lot more EGR, that puts a lot of carbon in the intake, as does my LMM Duramax, to a lesser extent. The use of DEF cuts the EGR usage down considerably, they use a converter and the DEF to remove the Nitrogen Oxide, it opens up a lot of fuel savings and economy.
If you Google Rumble in the Rockies it has a great article and side by side specifications on pick-ups.
Cat is not in the Class eight Market any more because they could not make an engine that was fuel efficient. Look at the tag on the EPA emissions sticker it show the MM3 of fuel to make the advertised HP look at other manufacturers.

You two obviously missed the fact we were talking about manufacturer built engines. Either way, those older Cummins diesels are still way ahead of the competition at the time.

Manufactures? Like say.....Cummins? LOL
Manufacturers that make trucks, the comment was about in-house built engines. I'm not surprised at the typical responders who never seem to get the topic at hand...

A little bit off topic, but....

Soundguy,

I enjoy your posts. Someday, I would like to own another Ford tractor. I had a 2N years ago but sold it when I got divorced.

Topic at hand is Exhaust Fluid.
If so then why are you asking about an old Cummins block that had nothing to do with exhaust fluid...?

Are you sure the DEF tank was FULL upon delivery? I'm assuming you have a new Ford, since there is no DEF gauge you don't know exactly how full it is. Message screen just says "OK", under half or count down to empty. Dealers have been known not to top off the DEF tank.

I am talking about a Peterbilt semi truck. I know the DEF tank was full because I filled it. It does have a gauge in the cab just like a fuel gauge. The problem ended up being the hose fron the DEF tank fell off. I was loosing the fluid going down the road. Didn't notice the leak because it was dark when I started having problems. Its pretty bad to have something like that happen in the 1st 300 mile of the trucks life. I am begining to think all the new engines are junk. 6 hours at the dealership and I was back on the road

Navistar was allowed to use up the carbon credits they had built up over the years and are running out come February. They sued the EPA and lost, over the fact that the trucks with DEF could actually run without fluid and pollute. The fact is they keep derating the lower the fluid gets and speed is reduced till the point that it will shut down.
The benifits of DEF and the cost savings, out-way the cost of the DEF.

First gen rams, i think all 12 valves. I know early second gens had them. If fiat would shove an iveco under that hood, they would not need cummins.[/QUOTE]

Give it time, it can't help but happen. There's no reason to outsource engines when they have their own Tier IV non-structural block engines.

Any ideas if there is anything under the hoods, either in Europe, or being tested?? MB had a diesel ready for them, but guess that got quashed when Chryco was sold.

If I ever go diesel, Duramax will be my choice, SCR is the biggest reason, the Allison is second.

I haven't heard anything along those lines, but I'm not a truck guy.
I think of cars & trucks as necessary evils, not topics of interest.

I highly doubt Chrysler would drop the Cummins for an in-house diesel solely due to the history and cult following it has. I am however very confident you'll see a Fiat based light duty diesel in the next light duty Rams and Jeeps as well as the Fiat based work vans coming over.
The MB blu tec diesel was used in the Jeep Grand Cherokee but not a good enough seller to continue and could not meet new emissions.

Fiat already created a V6 3.0l diesel (237hp/410tq) for the Jeeps abroad. That engine with an 8-speed tranny would make a nice 1/2 ton RAM.
