Out here, they do a visual before they hook you up on the machine. If they do not see the CAT(or other required equipment/parts), they fail you. And still charge you... They don't do diesels yet, but they are tough on gas motor vehicles...

( We do not have yearly safety inspection either. They used to do spot checks back in the 60's/70's; I remember going through it when I was a kid driving with my parents. You'd be driving along, and out of the blue they had these roadside inspections. )

Robert, in the '50s at least, that's what Oklahoma did. You never knew when you would happen upon the Highway Patrol doing the inspections. If you failed, you got a ticket. If you passed, you got a sticker to put in the lower right corner of your windshield, and if you came upon another inspection point the rest of that calendar year, you'd get waved through.

"Hoonestly, sometimes I want the key in ACC, the door open, and the radio on..." Use a pen or other small object to trip the latch closed in the door. That's where the switch is on some newer models(works in my '04 anyway)......problem solved !! Just remember to pull the door handle before attempting to close the door ! ( Don't ask me how I know this )

i believe they do inspect in MA since I just can't go anywhere for an inspection sticker... Here in MA, it's a yearly check, alternating years for either safety or emissions. If you are running around with an expired sticker, it's considered a moving violation /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif. If I remove the CAT, then try and get inspected, it's hit or miss if I pass. If I get rejected, I have 30 or 60 days (forget which) to get it fixed... Either way they'll git me!!! :-|

I haven't done any research lately on what I'll do, but all signs point to leaving the cat on... .

Do they place a probe in the tailpipe when doing the emmission/safety inspection? That's when they would see emmissions indicating the lack of a CAT or a bad CAT.

I would be interested to know how they check the diesel. I would assume they would do a visual, and then do a tail pipe emission test. It would amaze me if they beat California to the punch on this.

One option to look at, is a better CAT. I know there are hi-flow CAT's available for gas engines, maybe there's something for diesels.

So far, out there, they do not test motorcycles or diesels, yet.....

Hi all, it's been awhile, but I finally had the exhaust on my dodge cummins replaced. I went with a MBRP 4" system. Added some HP, sounds good, allows for a tremendous amount of more flow from the turbo (very noticeable). Thanks for all the suggestions here, it definitely made the consideration for this repair easier!! Thanks again. -Art

p.s. Even only after 100 mil or so with mbrp, i'd recommend!
