First of all I know little of diesel engines.I've got about 28 hours on my DK35.I've noticed lately that everytime I start it or give it some throttle it blows out blueish black smoke out the exhaust. Is this normal for a diesel engine?I've also checked the engine oil level and it seems to be down about a quart or so.I know it's not unusual for a new car to burn some oil during it's break in,but does this also apply to my tractor.I didn't seem to notice this when I first got the tractor.

Grayish, black smoke at start up is normal.
Grayish, black smoke if drawing full power on a hill or mowing deep grass is normal.
You should not be seeing blue smoke or using oil though. The rings may not be seating in properly.
Work it hard and crank up the RPM's for a day and see if the rings seat up.(MY opinion)

"It seems to be down about a quart or so." I surely hope that you added proper oil to keep it up to the full level. Always keep you engine oil up to the full level.
