Experience with Taurus Firearms Warranty and Customer Service

So who is considered "reliable" for pistols these days? That is one type of product where I sure wouldn't want to dick around with issues.

It is very hard to go wrong with Ruger, S&W, Kahr, Glock, Sig, in the general out of the box handguns
There are many others, that are also extremely good, some of which are more towards the custom, high end realm.

I think reliable is a personal definition, to a degree. I think with firearms,like most things, you often get what you pay for. The best way for me to decide if a gun is reliable is to shoot 200-500 rounds of different ammo through it over a course of time in different conditions and check the results. If satisfied, declare it reliable.

I've never had a single jam or ftf with my XDM ($600 or so). I've also yet to have a problem with my hi point C 9 ($150). Not a fair comparison, but I consider both reliable.

Not all Taurus firearms are bad. I just went through a similar timeline and good CS experience with Taurus on their replacement program. Received a new G2 Millenium 40 cal a few weeks ago. Had sent in a perfectly reliable earlier model PT140 that was part of the repair or replace program. I thought there would just be a courtesy inspection, but they decided to replace most of them I think. I use these for EDC and they are bulletproof. Ran many hundreds of rounds through the original PT140 and never a hint of a problem. Also fit well in an IWB holster. This new G2 is essentially identical frame and dimensions which should work out well too.

My first handgun, (and the one I still use to qualify during CHL recerts), is a 30+ year old Taurus 1911 9mm. It has been perfect. Thousands of rounds.

They are not top of the line, but prices are right and I have found mine to be reliable. Our Berettas and Sigs are a bit nicer, but for EDC and plinking we'll usually have the Tauruses or Rugers out. (Or the ARs and AKs...) Occasionally the DP-12 if we really want to tear things up!

I own Sig, Taurus, Ruger, CZ, Beretta, Browning, Mossberg, Remington and Kahn pistols, rifles and shotguns. Never had a jam or misfire with any of them.
Often go several hundred rounds between cleaning on days we do a lot of shooting.

I think if I had one that misfired more than once I would get rid of it. Firearms are one thing I have zero tolerance for malfunctions.

The Taurus Raging Bull in 454 is a great pistol and very accurate. Just don't clinch your teeth when you fire it. :laughing:

I have 2 taurus pistols.. 1 of them is 1 of the ones recalled PT145.. I bought it new and have never had 1 problem putting hundreds of rounds through it.. I doubt I'll send it in as I don't think I'll be able to get another 45 back from them..
I also have a new P111 G2 9mm that I have put hundreds of rounds through without any issues.
I have some friends that have Glocks that have had issues and had to send them back for repair and they cost waaay more $$ than my Taurus
Don't know how close the 24 /7 is to my P111 G2. Gut I was able to purchase a couple of 30 round mags for my P111 G2

From what I've seen, Taurus is a HUGE crap shoot... Some guys buy them and have good luck with them, but more folks buy them and have nothing but problems with them and their war...

In the end, most guys just give up, pass the POS on and never buy another one...

Exactly, it depends on your luck. My frequent carry gun is a Taurus 605 (j-frame revolver). Good reliable gun. I've had it for 20 years. HOWEVER, it took TWO REPLACEMENTS from Taurus before I got one that worked reliably (different s/n on each of the three.)

With Taurus, the buyer is the quality control inspector. And you send it back and it goes into the big long queue. Their lifetime warranty may not be worth the cost and time and hassle.

Reliable manufacturers? I have found Sig Sauer to be excellent. Kimber is good for 2 out of 3 guns (I have three Kimbers, two good, one unreliable). S&W is good. Ruger is very reliable and has much better warranty support than Taurus. Springfield has a reputation of good quality and good warranty support.

I would sure hope most Taurus owners are very happy with their handguns, but hearing about the recalls and such, I don't want to take that gamble. I did look at them because they seemed to be a good value, now I am glad I stayed with S&W. I surely don't blame most CSR's as they have a thankless job usually. But the wait times, and repeated calls needed would drive me crazy. As others have mentioned... a gun better be reliable. If 1 or 2 in a 100 are problematic, that is way to high percentage for me. I don't want to be one of the very unlucky few that ends up with a lemon.

I also have a 605 that is a truck gun. Has been very reliable. My CCW is a 45 but would not hesitate to carry the j-frame if I chose to carry a revlover.
