Rick:
Just read this post. Thanks for your attention to the problem. I do not think it is fair to you to refund 50% of my purchase price. I would be completely satisified to pay return postage to you and you send a replacement to me. Nobody is perfect all the time. John.

John,
Thank you for your offer to decline the partial refund.
You may destroy the other model. However I must send the
refund. I gave my word that i would. Take the wife to
McDonalds. Buy a set of fuzzy dice to hang from your
tractor canopy if so equipped. I truly appreciate your
support and understanding in all of this. When you receive
your new model, let me know what you think. Good or bad.
Sincerely, Rick

Rick, Sorry I never got back to you about the two meters. These meters are right on the money, and they make a very good appearance, and a nice paint job. Tried them below my driveway and the steepest place is 22 degrees. You have to stop to get an accurate reading. The glass tube bounces around in the frame, would it be OK to put a little caulking in a couple of places to keep the tube from vibrating. I was thinking the movement may ruin the tube.
Also, the boxes you use for shipment give no protection to what is inside. The sides cave in because there is no support from a flap that folds in under the ends. That's why I taped the ends when I returned the meters. You have fragile stamped on the box, and when I received it there was a couple of stamps on it saying "received in damaged condition".
When I pay bills I'm sending you a check, you sent too much money.
Thanks Bud

Just another comment about the tiltmeters. As I've said in the past, I put the #7489C on the front of my canopy and was very pleased with it. However, since it registers up to 50 degrees, and I sure hope the little ball never gets halfway there, I figured the #25C that only goes to 25 degrees might be preferable for a side to side indicator. So yesterday I installed a #25C in the place of the #7489C and this morning re-installed the #7489C on the side for a front to rear indicator. I think that makes a real good combination.

Bird, could you mount the 25C on top of the grill guard and read it from there? I don't plan on having a canopy.

Glenn, I don't know of any reason you couldn't mount the tiltmeter on the grill guard. I think you could easily read the 7489C, and probably the other models, too, at that distance (guess it depends on how good your eyesight is). I considered that location when I first got mine, and figured it would be just fine 99% of the time, but I figured that sooner or later, I'd get into some brush and damage it, and since I have the canopy, that made a better location. Of course, one reason I considered the grill guard location is that I wouldn't have to glance up to see it; it'd always be right in front of my eyes. I still think the best location for a side to side indication would be right on top of the instrument panel, but I just didn't want to drill any holes in the shiny new metal.

Glenn, after I answered you this morning, I went out to move just a little bit of dirt around and got to looking at both tiltmeters to see how well I could read them from different distances, and I'd say you would have no problem reading either the 25 or the 7489 mounted on the grill guard. In fact, I think that would be a neat looking installation if you're not worried about hitting anything like brush with it.
