extended warranty for BX24

I received a post card from Kubota indicating my warranty was about to expire but that I could obtain extended warranty by contacting my dealer for a quote. I did and the dealer told me a 2 year extended warranty was $1300 or $725 for one year. Have TBN members been quoted pricing at this level ? With my zilch automotive skills, I had thought I would be interested - until I heard the pricing.

I didn't even know it was possible to do this. Not cheap, indeed. I'm surprised it's only time based, not time or number of hours used.

I receieved the post card almost a year ago too. no pricing on the card, had to call to ge tthe pricing. Not something I want to get into. I am pretty handy with my hands, and the BX's is pretty hard to kill under normal workloads.

The rule of thumb is that extended warranties are not money well spent. That being said, there are lots of folks who are glad they bought them!

I was glad I spent $480 for the insurance, because of the 0% financing, as the one instance that I've had to use it has paid for itself. But that's very different than extended warranties. But $1300 for two years is a little steep for me. As radioman said, they've proven to be pretty stout machines under normal workloads.

I've had my BX2200 for 7 years and it hasn't been back to the dealer except warantee work (fuel guage) and to have a backhoe installed. I do my own routine maintenance (oil changes, grease, etc.) but I doubt those are covered anyway. Consumer Reports and other consumer advocates almost always advise against exteneded warrantees. I would rather put that money aside in a money market or interest bearing account and only use it if needed. I think you'll come out way ahead at the end of 5 years.

I do know that extended warranties are an extremely profitable source of revenue for companies that sell them...what does that tell you?

If I needed something big done under the original factory warranty I think I would then probably think long and hard when the time came to extend.

Also, the extended warranty is something very different than the Kubota insurance...heck, I'm not even sure if it's exactly the same as the original warranty.

Yea, one would be a head to put the money that it would take for extended warranty into an account for everything you ever purchace. Then let it collect intrest and when something does break, take it out and pay cash to get it fixed. Probably would work out better in the end.

I'v eknown people who got the extended warranty and when they needed it, had to end up getting lawyers to get it taken care of because the company product manufacturer said it wasn't covered but the extended warranty company it was the manufacture's problem.

I know it is slightly off topic, but I once bought a keyboard for a computer from Best Buy for $10, they asked me if I wanted the extended warranty for $9.

I bought a flat screen tv from best buy with a 4 yr warranty 3 1/2 yrs later the goes out gave me full price for new tv no questions
