My barn is about 50 yards away from my Router in the house and couldn't access the internet.

1. I added the NetGear PowerLine access adapters.
Hooked one adapter to an outlet close to my router in the house.
Added the other adapter to an outlet in the Barn. Magic - I have internet in the Barn.

2. Plugged in the ACENX Outdoor Smart Plug in an outlet next to my Tractor.

3. Downloaded the "SMART LIFE" app from "Google play" to my Phone.

4. Followed the ACENX Smart Plug Outlet instructions how to "Pair" to my Phone.

5. From my phone I set the "Smart Life" App and program to shut power off to the outlet - after two hours.

Nice setup Puddlewalker.

I have the same situation as you with the shop a bit too far from home.

I just used a couple TP Link Powerline adapters and a smart switch for enabling/disabling an homemade alarm system. This also allowed me to have CCTV there.

These powerline setups are awesome and saved me lots of trouble by not having to run an ethernet cable from my house to the shop.

Thanks for posting... always interesting to see solutions that work.

Not to steal this thread, but WiFi related, I have a new Ring camera, I want to put it on the garage end outside of my house. When I get it into the garage (80’ from my router) it stops working. The camera needs to be mounted about 20 more feet away from where it stops working. Is there an extender I can plug into my AC outlet by the router and another into an outlet in the garage that will help? Thanks!

I'm getting ready to build a new 1000 sqft shop with a 250 sqft office that'll be 200' from the house (plans currently at permit stage). I'll be trenching for a hardwire connection to my main router.. WiFi is possible but would require some higher-end equipment which would succumb to the weather in my area. Plus, it's too dang slow! Trying to do virtual meetings with WiFi is like watching old Max Headroom videos. (points if you get that reference).
But if all you want to do is operate consumer switches.. it works.
If the MT125 ever shows up, the BH is gunna be busy :)

not cheap by any means, but my shop was 300 feet from my wifi router. i had a hard wired cat5 cable run years ago, but it finally gave up the ghost. it was troublesome from day 1 so i just descided to abandon the idea of a hard wire and went with a radiolabe wifi extender Extend ANY WiFi System to Shop, garage, barn - Connect kit | RadioLabs

i have flawless wifi reception in shop now. i need it to control my computer controlled plasma table and to use the shop computer. it also finally allows me to make and receive cell phone calls deep within my shop after i enabled wifi calling feature on phone. i used to have to walk out of shop to talk on phone...no longer do.

Amazon.com: WAVLINK AC12 High Power Outdoor Weatherproof WiFi Range Extender/Wireless Access Point/Router with Passive POE, Dual Band 2.4GHz 3Mbps+5.8 GHz 867Mbps, 4x7dBi Detachable Omni Directional Antenna: Electronics

Mount this outdoors, you can use it as a wifi repeater, or use a high quality cat7 or cat8 cable and plug it into your current router (range extender). ATT router on north wall of house, wavlink outside on south wall. Cell phone in same room as ATT router will connect to outside router because of it's increased signal strength. Signal passing thru 3 wooden walls.

I think 10/100 Ethernet is only rated at a max of 350 ft. The RJ45 need to be a flawless crimp to get those speeds.

Go old school!
Search 撤ringle can WiFi extender?
You can also extend WiFi with old satellite dishes (Dish network or DirecTV). Your remote device needs power too... so think about solar & a battery bank. Both Pringle cans and sat dishes are widely available.

There are a lot of DIY resources on the 創et. At one point some guys were selling the kits but I doubt there are many still out there doing this.

The above wireless solutions are point to point and no obstructions. A tree in the winter is fine but when it leaves out in spring or a rain storm soaked tree, the WiFi reduces throughout (density of water?) (refraction of signals?).

YMMV

Ethernet is rated for 300 meters not feet - So up to 1000 fr more or less

Unless something has changed since I was certified twisted pair ethernet (Cat 5, 5e or 6) max length is 326 feet then you need a repeater.

Does the unit next to the internet in house have to be connected with a cable to box to send signal thru the electrical lines?

You only need to turn it on about 30 minutes before starting the tractor. Otherwise, you're just wasting electrical energy to the radiator. Did this even at -22 F one morning in Vermont on our 220D Benz. Started instantly.

That depends a whole lot on what you have for a preheater.

You only need to start the engine heater about 20 or 30 minutes ahead of startup. Otherwise, you're just throwing $ out the radiator.

This thread came to mind when driving this morning...

My Uncle had one of the those X19 control modules to remotely turn on lights and appliances... all that was necessary was to plug in.

When neighbors went away... 4 doors down the street they gave me their module so I could look out the window and turn on their interior and yard light...

Really worked well and a big thing back in the 80's... have not heard much anymore.
