Extension cord reels?

Wakey- Awesome video. Thanks for sharing. I wish that I knew about this procedure years ago.

I got a Bayco KW-130 at the hardware store in the "Big City."

That knob will un-screw itself the way I reel in line. The place where the knob attaches to the reel is "weak." It needs reinforcement.

And a velcro strap stops the "cord flop."

A retired Navy guy showed me that trick several years ago, said they did it with cords, hoses and ropes. As he claimed, it kept the a**holes out of the hose when you used it.... His explanation is probably the only reason I've been able to remember it that long.

I have one of the orange reels but find that the flopping cord end is a PIA. Velcroing it might work. I do find that just wrapping the cord around my hand/elbow works fast and makes a tight bundle. For longer cords, I simply gather up an arm length per wrap and then hang it on a long nail. I have a couple of cord handcuffs that work great to hold everything together but I haven't seen them in many years at any local store. While the reels seem like a good idea, they just aren't too great for my uses. Those H shaped ones would be my least favorite way to wrap up a cord, a real PIA to reel out, much worse than just arm wrapping the cords.

Same here. I sure don't like the starting end of the cord slapping my wrist on every revolution. But cheap has its own price, so I own 4 of them.

That velcro strap seems to work at controlling the "slap;" but I have not tried it yet in "real world" conditions outside.

I see potential problems with that chintzy knob, but for the price and a spare washer I am not complaining.

I also use the loop through loop one for the "community" cords. No one will touch them because they look like a tangled up mess. But the never tangle

That's my point. Nobody will steal my cords that way.

Some people put black ink cartridges/refills in those red pen cases too. ;)

It sucks when those expensive cords get "appropriated" by someone else.

I may test the anti-slap strap this PM in real world conditions.

I havent seen it mentioned about the problem of continuous electrical load on a cord reel.

Even with a well below wire capacity load a coiled cord will slowly develop heat in the bunched wire that is sufficient to melt the insulation. Big, short term loads are no problem for coiled. But if its a small heater or anything applying continuous load more than a couple amps pull the cord all the way out so air can keep it cool.
