Extreme Metal Products thumb purchase - bad report

The bolts should have been there, and they should try to help, but in all reality it would cost them more to mail them to you than they are worth. I would likely be too impatient to wait for them to be shipped and buy local to save the wait.

I just completely disagree with this.

Sure, if I have the missing bolt problem, I would probably get them locally, but the company attitude sucks like a Hoover.

The OP sent them good money. He should get all the parts, and with a smile. FedEx 0vernite. If their QC is this bad on what goes in the box, how do you know the quality of the steel?

By the way, the relative cost of who buys the parts is irrelevant. The OP paid for the whole kit -- now if they offered a partial refund if he got the parts himself, that would be different, but please explain why he should pay even a nickel more than the agreed price for an entire unit.?

I wonder what it costs to fix a bad review and damaged reputation. This thread and the related bad opinion will be here for all to read. Would it have been cheaper for the company to just send out the two bolts and get good reviews and more business?

I just threw on EMP's thumb on my BX25 DipperStick. The unit is soild and well maid. I wasn't missing any bolts, yea they screw'd up but like Skyco said, it ain't such a big deal, no need to get chonies in a bunch over it, BUT I TOOK notice, bought it anywho. I never vasalated so much in my life of a tool, EMP or Brotek, both looked great but EMP won due to design and what I will be using it for. If I were to buy a second BX25 I would get the BroTek!

No instructions*, yea should be easy EXCEPT, I ALMOST ripped off my 90degree hydraulic cylinder fitting as well. BE FOREWARNED. If you find the right holes to use, of the adjustable holes given ( I used the second set from the top) and if you pull the unit up till it stops along the dipperstick, (in attempt to make it so it will NOT slide up ever ) and if you, I believe un-curl the bucket to the max IT HITS. So I lowered the thumb a tad and it clears but now I suspect that it COULD slide up unbeknownst to me and cause issue.

*I went looking for instructions on their website, either I am blind or there nonexistant. I called, looks like early holiday, so I wait for a return call.

Only the top two bolts do any clamping, their is about .180" clearance left/right space where the unit is about that much bigger than the thickness of the dipperstick. The lower 2 bolts will never suck that baby together tight.

NOTE: I am NOT trash talking the company, I AM looking for input from others as to what they did. It just needs a lil tweekin to be perfect for a BX25 me thinks...the pic below was taken AFTER I moved the thumb down a tad.

Your experience is why I went Bro Tek. Liked the design of the EMP thumb and the Wallenstein too, but decided to play it safe and get the Bro Tek since there are no (that I've seen) reports of mounting issues on a BX25 hoe. Someday if I learn to weld, I might modify the Bro Tek thumb so the contact area is much larger. Hope you get it sorted out soon.

A quick word for the Bro-Tek side. My skid plate kit was missing a pair of bolts when it arrived. I contacted Richard and he immediately offered to ship me a set or discount my next order.

Since I knew I was going to order a thumb, I took him up on the discount and sourced them locally.

I can't speak for him, but I can say that his response to a small mistake was immediate and positive.
