This all sounds like the argument for using paper plates and plastic utensils vs dishes and silverware that have to be washed. There are extremely few projects I do that require a quality ($15 plus) paint brush. Most high quality painting I do by spraying, and I'm not a big woodworker. Latex paint or acrylic enamel paints that are water soluble are the paints I prefer. I clean up immediately after completing the job or several times during the job if it's a big one. When I stain my house, I use a horsehair radiator brush (foxtail) and a natural fiber push-broom to spread the stain after spraying. There's nothin' quality about those brushes.
