I have a heavy 60" Befco finish mower that I use with my NH TC24D and when transporting the deck in the up position, the front end of the tractor gets very light. Combine that with very hilly property and I have popped a few wheelies with the tractor, even in low gear. So I figured I needed some weight up front. I didn't want suitcase weights in the front of the tractor because my garage space is limited and adding another 10" to the front of the tractor didn't seem like a great idea. And the cost seemed a bit much for a chunk of dead weight.

I picked up the EZ Weights brackets earlier this summer because I like the idea, but I could not fit standard 25" barbell weights inside the wheels without bending the valve stem. I got some 9.5" steel bar stock, sliced off 1 pieces 1.5" thick, drilled 1" holes in them and mounted two slices on each of the front wheels. The pieces weigh in at just about 25# so I have 100 pounds of weight added to the front wheels.

I accomplished the goal of keeping the mower deck from lifting the front end. I did not increase the overall lenght of the tractor. And the wheel weights and assemblies only increase the width of the front end by a couple of inches overall, which is still narrower than the width of the rear track.

Attached is a top down view of the EZ Weight system with my custom weights. This shows how well they fit inside the wheels without too much increase in the over all width of the front end.

Bob,

Looks real good!

Wish I had one of them knives you used to just slice off several pieces of 9.5" steel bar stock! /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Sounds like it was as easy as slicing bread...must be nice! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif Iwish I had the means to do that!

I got lucky, the bar stock and the bread knife were at a friend's machine shop. The bar stock was left over from a 12' long piece he used for a real project. The bread knife was a huge metal cutting band saw. It is helpful to have friends. I have some basic tools and I probably could have cut the bar stock myself but it would have taken 5 times as long!
