EZ Weights Wheel Weighting System

Try this for the 2" hole weights. The bolt is welded to the plate, then the pipe is welded over it to the plate. The pipe cap needs to be larger than the pipe, so the cap can slid over the pipe.

You can get the same plates as the ones with the 2" hole but with a 1" hole at W/M. You have to get a Manager or a assist-manager to call the vender to order them. Don't let them tell you that they can't. I know they can because that is how I got my 50 pound weights with a 1" hole.

Thanks for the information. I will try ordering the 1" plates first, then I will try the cap method. What do think is the minimum thickness for the backing plate? I have lots of 3/16" plate steel and smaller. Do you know if the Walmart weights are the machineable or non-machineable type of cast iron? If I could drill the first weight, then I could bolt it to the backing plate to make it stronger.

If I remember right I used 3/16" plate. Yes you can machine them. I had a friend machine a recess into the first weight that I put one each side. I did that so that the bolt head would have clearance and the weights would sit level.

That's great to know. I will stop by Walmart this weekend and order the weights.

For what it's worth, you might want to check a scrap steel reseller. We have one here which sells pretty much whatever you can imagine for a fixed rate of twenty cents per pound. Granted, you'd have some scrap after cutting your round weights out of square material but it'd still be a pretty cheap way to go. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Replying to myself here.....

I ordered the EZ Weight brackets on Friday and they should be here this week. I just wanted to correct my original posting above that the brackets are about $35-40 PER AXLE - not each wheel /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif. I think this makes it an even better deal.
I will post after I install and test the system.

This might be the oldest thread I've seen brought back. However that looks like a very good idea, I know I have weights just sitting around in the basement that aren't being used for anything.
