F-250 vs 2500 HD gas

I bought a new 2015 Silverado 2500 HD 4x4 6.0 gasser Double Cab in September. Put on Krank wheels for a snappy look and drove away for just under $60K.

This is my first Chevy truck, having always stayed with Ford for my trucks. Although I "may" find a use for the 2500 muscle, it was bought primarily to go to the local Sonic and get a Coke. I looked at F250, F350, 2500 & 3500 trucks. I chose the 2500 because it looks the best :)

If you're worried about gas mileage, this truck is NOT for you - lol. My average, with about 3000 miles on the odo, is around 12mpg.

That seems high. My college roommate just bought a 2015 3500 SRW Crew Cab 6.0 cloth, Nav, 4x4, ect for $38,000. It stickers for $49,000 but with all the rebates he did pretty good.

Down side is he got 6 mpg pulling his 27' 10,500# 5th wheel to my house but he only uses it about 6 times a year.

I like my 2014 1500 Z71 and it hasn't given me any problems other than a couple recalls I had to do. However, there is a sound coming from the rear end at times. It makes the sound like when you have the hitch in when it moves around (that's the best way I can describe the sound). So, I thought it was the hitch moving around, took it out, nope still doing it. Dealer doesn't have any idea what it is but it never seems to do it whenever the dealer drives it either. Does it sometimes with me, although I can't replicate it after it does it. It just does it randomly.

It's a creaking/croaking from rear leaf spring bushings / pads / clips. I heard it about once every 4-5 weeks for a while, but haven't in a long time (maybe temperature/weather related, don't know, or simply needed time to wear in some rubbing surfaces). Really sounds like something rolling/rattling around in the bed. But when I looked on some of the GM truck forums, those that had it successfully diagnosed found it to be the springs. You can shoot some lube in them if it's a real annoyance. I haven't bothered since the noise seems to have gone away. It's not a major concern either way -- nothing will fail or blow up.

I currently have a 2014 F-250 that I special ordered, 6.2 with 4:30 gears. Ford only offers 3:73 and 4:30 on the gas units, and after driving one with both gears I knew I wanted the 4:30's. I've got 17,000 miles, with 7200 of those pulling my tractor, and I'm getting 11.8 mpg overall. When I'm on the highway I'll get 15.8-16.5 depending on the terrain, 13 in town. I really like the pulling power, it likes to rev in the 3000-4000 range with a load on hills, but just cruising it won't leave 1900 at 70 mph. My friends with diesels hate it because it does rev up, but I like it, and I didn't pay 62,000 so I could say I have a diesel, nor do I have the worries of reliability.

198k on my 2008 I agree they cost more but I tow, so it was a no brained to me. And yes the def fluid is a joke but can also be deleted. Just my .02 at the end of the day it would be hard for me to go back to a gasser. Chose what works best for your budget

IT IS HIGH - lol. I think I have every option except power folding side mirrors ... wish I had that one too. Leather, heated/cooled seats, navigation, XM, power everything, front&rear proximity sensors, rear camera .... Final cost, with added steps, spray in bed liner, rubber bed mat, tires, wheels and leveling kit was $56k. I stayed just a few hundred below original sticker, even with the upgrades.

Guys around here get fully loaded diesels of all brands for that. They sticker in the high 60's but with the rebates they are in the mid 50's out the door.

I drove a few diesels but preferred the gas. Also looked at a number of less expensive trucks, even a really nice 3500 dually. This truck just caught my fancy :) It will likely be the last "new" truck I ever buy - so who cares what it cost? It's paid for and I'm happy with it.

So I just went through this process back in Feb. in Mar. After many hours at FTE site I came to the decision that the 2015 F250 Platinum with 6.2 and 373 rear was the way to go. I didn't need to spend so much with all the options but it will be the last truck I buy. I'm retired and don't drive much but intend to travel with small trailer in tow some in the coming years. I have always owned a truck (36 yrs) all but one were basic work trucks in the F150 size and I waited for the 15 F150 and the reports of fuel mileage and was disappointed that given the changes and the price point that for a few more or less bucks I could get the more capable truck as mileage is moot when compared to similar equipped trucks. The diesel was considered but when figuring 8k more for diesel plus added maintenance expenses and down time due to DEF issues being reported the decision was easy for me. I see several always asking about real mileage on these trucks, really if you can spend 50k for one of theses trucks, we aren't thinking how much we can save in mileage. But just for inquiry minds I'm getting 13 mpg around local and 15-16 highway and pleased. The six speed trans is fine for when I'm old guy puttin around and when I feeling frisky and stomp on it I get the the big eight response I want.
What I dislike are some comments from fellas who think they know me, I don't give a rats patudy what you got or can afford so keep your snide ars remarks to yourself, I worked for it I earned it and will **** well spend it the way I see fit. I don't plan on leaving any of my hard earned money or things to anyone, I owe no one anything stay out of my business. Buy what you can afford , buy what you want with your money and enjoy life, I am!
