my 2000 f150 with small v8 gets 18 - 20 .... until I hook the trailer behind it - then I don't even check.

On Saturday, I traded my 2000 F150 with the 5.4L V-8 in, for a new 2004 F150 with the smaller 4.6L V-8. Hoping to increase my mileage from 12-15 mpg to 15-18 mpg. Anyone think it'll work?

You may increase the straight gas mileage, but when you consider the extended financing time (assuming you financed) and the cash loss due to trading in a fairly recent model year truck, is the overall expense going to be reduced?

Personally, I prefer to buy new vehicles, and then drive them till the wheels fall off. Both our cars, and the pickup are approaching 200K miles each.

Well, for one thing my payments actually decreased by 25 bucks a month. Second, the extended warranty on the 2000, just expired so any repairs would be my sole expense. And, my trade-in, if I had kept it, in the next year would have needed new tires, new brakes, and new shocks. That's almost a grand. Insurance did go up by about 10 bucks a month though. But the best part is the new-truck smell. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Darn it. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Why do people like you always insist on making me re-evaluate my vehicle policy?

Oh wait....I know.....I have no car payments, so I only pay maintenance. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

yep;

I buy the cars no one else wants and use some high tech duct tape and baling wire to get them back to wobbling on the road well enough so I can careein my way down the road and hopefully stop somewhere near my final destination! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

my insurance is low payments are none fuel milage usually not that great but I only pay 600 or so for them and when they need new tires or breaks then it is time for a new one! So I get the NEW car smell all the time, "each one smells of something else that died a few hots days prior to picking it up!" lol /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Keep switching cars. That's brilliant.

I just traded the 1995 Dodge 1500 4WD with 318 cid, 5 speed, short bed with fiberglass cap for a 2004 Toyoda Tacoma 4WD, 4 cylinder, 5 speed.

The Dodge used to average 18 mpg on a combination city and high way driving. This number has retreated a bit as the mileage got over 126,000. The first tank of fuel in the Toyoda produced 25 mpg, which I suppose will get better.

Looks like I may save at least $7.00 per week on fuel at the current gas prices. The Tacoma is much easier to park than the Dodge was.
