I have just had my Block bored and pistons replaced...the friend i have is a diesel mechanic and is helping me with this build but he's curious about which piston is supposed to be top center because he's used to it being number one which in his work has always been on the front of the engine..when we place the timing gears on using the manual its the rear cyclinder thats up...he's just being sure before we go further...thank you for the help. Its a two cylinder Diesel btw.

Hello ICEGORE. Look at your injector pump. It will fire the piston that is first in the fireing order. If the pistons are one up and one down, it will fire one then a half turn, number two, then nothing for what would be three and four. If both pistons go up and down together, then it will fire number one, then a full turn, fire number two. Allso check your velves, they will both be closed when on TDC, and the exost will just be closing, and the intake will just start to open at a full turn from TDC.
