i was mowing today and finished the last pass and shut of the mower blades. Headed for another mowing spot and for no reason the mower blades stated turning . the switch was off. i headed to the shop to investigate but not before the pto brake band got real hot so i guess that part was working. i even unplugged the clutch on the end of the crank pulley and the mower still wont shut off. Any ideas ? thank you very much in advance !

That is puzzling. Sure sounds like a short.. but if so a fuse should blow, I would think.

Do you have a plan to trouble shoot the problem? Or waiting for a suggestion or more?

I'm hoping for some suggestions. unplugging the clutch and it's still engaged puzzles me. like some one posted maybe bearing seized up in the clutch. thanks

That's right. You should be able to uncouple the pto shaft under the seat and then work with just the shaft running to the front of the machine. The bearings I'm thinking of are in the pulley on the engine. It's the only thing I can think of that would be causing your problem.

With the key off and the mower pto shaft disconnected you should be able to easily turn the shaft other than the resistance from the belts.
