I致e been doing a little aluminum welding, but my welder doesn稚 have a two cylinder rack. The twin cylinder rack was over $300 which outside of my budget. I致e been welding with the cylinder just standing next to the welder. It worked, but I knew it wasn稚 safe. I was also too cheap to buy a certified in use valve guard, so I thought I壇 make my own. I bought a new cover from my welding supplier for $8. The cylinder is a piece of sch 20 sprinkler pipe that I had on the scrap pile. I saved the rolled groove because it would help strengthen the edge. I Then cut the cap off just above the swell. There is a 1/8 flat plate that I traced the outside profile of the sprinkler pipe and the inside of the valve cap. Used the band saw to out the lines and then welded the connecting slot closed. I ended up with an oversized washer. The notch in the pipe was roughed in on the band saw and then cleaned up with a die grinder. Total cost? $8.

Yea, it痴 not certified, but for a home application I think it痴 better than leaving the cylinder unguarded.

Nice job, Cord!

Why not enlarge the platform for your cart to accommodate two tanks. That’s what I had to do.

BTW my LWS offers tank tops like this:

I can only assume they charge more for them.

There is a real nice one called the Tulip as well. Hinged at the bottom and can be opened or locked closed. Kinda spendy but the chinese equilelant is 15 bucks. Always fun to build your own stuff though.

This is the type that come with mine. I remove them when certain flow meter assemblies don’t fit.

You prompted me to go look at my HF cart that I modified to set my Plasma Cutter on top of my Miller MIG.

I haven't used the spool gun yet and tried any Al welding yet but it would be nice if I could throw another tank on board next to my C25 rather than a separate cart. Looks like it would require some new bracketry for tandem tank arrangement and I would need to increase the axle length to squeeze another 7in bottle of Argon. Doable though.

Maybe this view will help.

See Mark, now if you'd gotten on board and built one along with me, you'd already HAVE that problem taken care of :D

Plenty of room for a second cylinder behind the C25, plus the "roll cage" protects the gauges, acts as a hand truck, provides an adjustable balance lifting eye, trailer hitch (offroad ONLY) with retractable casters, hot and cold running water (OK, maybe not ) ...Steve

OK Terry, I see I'm gonna hafta fix my slip roll and turn out some fenders; sheesh... :confused3: ... Steve

I like that Steve. Hand “ truckable” for Off Road but easily swiveable on shop floors.

You’d never know I got “A”s in English....

Thanks. That?s a project I was looking at a few weeks ago. This welder doesn?t have a cart though so I?d be welding on the machine while it?s powered. It wasn?t gonna be an easy project either because the axle was gonna need to be relocated. In the mean time, this AL project was taking priority.
