Fab a bolt-on plate to make grading bucket?

On mine, the teeth for the bucket, provided me with an area where they were welded on, on the back side, that a piece of angle iron could slip over, and lock on to.

Then, I just made a couple of holes in a 1/2" plate, and bolted in the front of the teeth, through the piece of angle on the back side.

The size, and weight of the machine, restricts the size of the scraper you can effectively use. Too big a scraper, and it won't do much, but move the machine around.

Thanks Ray. Any chance you have a photo you could share?

Sorry, I know that would help.

All that stuff is buried for the winter season.

And, I am not into all this nifty cad drawing, I see on here all the time.

Here is a keyboard representation, of the way it works: L^l

The "L" is the angle. The "^" is the bucket tooth. With the pointy end, representing the part of the tooth that goes in the ground. And the "l" representing the plate.

The teeth get wider, where they weld to the bucket. And, that area is not all used to attach the tooth to the bucket, on my b/h. So, there is a flare there, I can use to hold the angle. A weld could be put there, to make a small lip, if one is needed on your bucket.

The two bolts go through the "L" and the "l", between the teeth. When it's all tight, it can't go anywhere.

I had a JD #7 backhoe. After several attemps to come up with a bolt on plate that would be strong I finally just took a 6 X 14 X 1/2 plate and welded it to the teeth. Worked great.

Exactly what I also did. The welds were done so they could easily be ground off if i ever needed the use of the teeth again, but so far I haven't. I can "up" a pic if you like later today but its basically a flat bar welded over the teeth, works nice for "fine" grading etc.

Referring to picture in post #8: this exactly what we do at work on our excavators buckets when digging around existing pipe lines. I use pieces of used dozer blade cutting edge or just 1/2" steel plate 4 to 6 inches by the width of the bucket and weld them on. Seems to work great.

Might look for posts by Bindian - she had a thread maybe a year ago with a wide version of what you're looking for. I saved some of the pix, but would rather you found your own unless Brandi is OK with me posting them FOR her... Steve

radair.....I built one of these gizmos out of a 4 foot piece of road-grader blade cutting edge...on the backside I welded on a series of "pockets" out of some square tubing that fit over each tooth of the backhoe bucket....I then welded a 10" piece of 1/4 x 1" flat bar on-edge that extends into the sides of the bucket....drilled a 1/2 hole through the bar and bucket-side so I can fasten it with a a short 1/2 nut & bolt...this holds the blade on the bucket.....the blade actually sits on the "top" or front-side of the teeth so it doesn't get torn away when scraping....it's great for ditching and digging swales and such...I've used it quite a bit...I also built a shorter one the width of the bucket for digging smooth bottom ditches etc...it only takes a couple of minutes and an wrench or two to install and remove.....I don't think I have a picture of it on the backhoe but I will try to post a picture of the blade itself tomorrow....it may help to give you ideas.....good luck....twister
