Faded fenders and top on 2008 M5040

If you're thinking about going to a body shop I would ask them. They may be able to buff the fenders to a shine. If it was me I would opt for painting over new since a body shop could do a real nice job and use a clearcoat (which would prevent fading). Depending in the shape they may even be able to use some compound to take care of the fading and then just clear it for a real nice shine.

The rims of my L3540HSTC are faded bad and the plastic cab is fading as well but the hood is like new. The thing is that I store my tractor inside 100% of the time it is not working. Not overly impressed......

Exactly. I had mine to the body shop yesterday so they could make estimates. I will report back when I get them.

Replacing the fenders with new would probably just result in 2 sets of faded fenders in a couple of years, too.

I believe the wheels on our L3940 are stamped made in USA, so they're probably painted here.

I remember that Toyota had a problem like this. In the mid 80s their pickup trucks could be imported cheaper if they didn't have the bed on them. So the bed was made here while the rest of the truck was made in Japan. The paint on the beds would fade while the cab wouldn't.

Estimates are in. Taking dents out of hood and painting the top part of it, 620.00

Hood and faded fenders, 1159.00 Fenders seem high with 2.5 hours of labor in each.

Another estimate with hood, wheels and fenders, 2324.00

They forgot the roof but figure another 300.00

This is with me pulling parts and bringing in. Wheels they figure both sides, think I could do with just outside painted so would trim it back some.

Got some chewing to do, for one need to find what new fenders cost. Then decide just how bad I what fresh orange wheels. Tho hood I want done pretty bad.

think this is "normal" for kubota as they offer touch up spray paint in both original & "faded" colors. agree that the fading steals some of the luster of having a newer machine....at least you have no mechanical issues with the sight unseen purchase! M series are awesome... good luck

FYI.. those colors are offered because the older Kubota's where painted that faded color. At some point they brighted up their orange color and thus bright orange 2 was born.

The wheels are painted by the rim supplier. Its been a long standing problem that the rims fade faster than the tractor does. We repaint them with bright orange 2 spray cans with good results.

Plastics UV fade, thats kinda normal. The early plastic roofs and plastic fenders on the big M's where a real problem, thats fixed now also. If your in warrenty I'd ask about having them replaced, we successfully filed on some.
