My wife works at Carrier...they are in the process of sending the plant down to MEXICO. Started this a couple of years ago....so far, 90+% of units coming back across are having problems and needing reworked. Carrier had 2 major accounts .units ordered cancelled, saying they would not buy anymore, unless they were made here in usa. (There are a few production lines still running here in tyler) Doesnt matter, they are closing the plant next year...

Hello all -

I want to address a couple issues in this thread which I beleive have been mis-represented.

1 - Unless something has changed recently the Woods machine also has a chinese gearbox. Woods, Land Pride, Bush Hog, Rhino, and King Kutter, all use gearboxes made in China.

2 - King Kutter has a failure rate of about 1 in 10,000 on gearboxes. I'm speaking of actual manufacturers defects here. So to whomever stated that the gearbox has been the weak spot of the King Kutter Finish Mowers, I'm sorry if you had an issue with one.

MY Woods has a 100% made in USA gear box. I don't know what models you are referencing, but for sure it doesn't include my old BB600.

There must be a million or so happy customers elsewhere, because I've personally seen 8-10 KK's that have snapped teeth, shafts and roasted bearings early in life. Maybe not within the warranty period, but first few years of LIGHT duty. The gears and shafts that I have seen personally looked to have been overly hardened and were brittle.

I don't sell equipment, so take my biased opinion for what it's worth, but I try to talk people out of the standard KK (I do steer them to the "HD" line which seems to be much better made.)

If the customers nearly always buy the cheap stuff, the people selling the expensive stuff go out of business and the employees have no jobs AND the owners (shareholders) lose everything. "greedysumbitches" applies to the buyers for buying crud products and not buying quality for more $$$. I would rather buy once and have it last a lifetime than buy crud. But... it better be quality and it better last.

I would buy a Chinese or Turkish Implements, if the factory was built and was staffed by American workers. Ken Sweet

Ford Tractor: I was talking about current and recent production stuff. I have no doubt that an older BB600 has an American made gearbox. Many products used to be like that.

Sorry you've had bad luck in the past with any King Kutter products. I hope you'll give us another chance to change your mind. I feel our products are second to none. Also, we employ many people in the United States in our three manufacturing facilities and outside sales force around the country.

Have a great day!
