Fall protection harness

   / Fall protection harness #11
Some of the jobs sites I go on are requiring a fall protection harness if I climb over 6'. The harnesses we have are a PITA. They are bulky and heavy. I am trying to find a good lightweight harness that you can actually be comfortable and work in and still be safe. It also needs to be easy to put on and take off. If anyone could make a recommendation from personal experience I would appreciate their opinions

I use the Petzl Falcon from Rock-N-Rescue. It has a detachable upper arrest harness. It's not much heavier than the sport harnesses.
I never have the upper section on as I use mine in conjunction with the Black I'D for hands-free work positioning as opposed to fall arrest. Current job is 33' to 48' up and I'm mostly hanging over the edge to work.

Rock climbing is a dangerous sport and everyone engaged realizes the risk. Construction is a vocation you may want to continue for your living and family support.

That's why they make the ones with waist D rings for the posistioning strap. Where is your safety manager when you are using the harness w/o the upper half and not tied off to an inmovable point? Are rock climbing harnesses ANSI labeled? At least when you fall that far you probably will not know anything after you land except when you tear off all your skin on the wall, pole, or whatever you are working next to; on the way down. Listen to power linemen from the old days talk about "skinning the pole". They now use bucket trucks; including full fall restraint harness.

Self employed roofer. I've used many harnesses. Since I only use positioning, I skip the arrest. The rope would have to part for a fall. There was one time though that a shake popped out and, in harness, I hit the deck so hard I broke my arm. Go figure. And another time, while taking my safety goggles off, the elastic strap popped loose and popped me in the eye. Go figure.

I forgot to mention, I don't rock climb. Scared of heights to be honest.

I every now and then rock climb(indoor)and have a black diamond harness. I use the harness for archery also i use the Metolius Personal Anchor System to clip into my stand.
If you are looking for a sport harness look at moosejaw.com the reviews on the gear there are beliveable.
If you are looking for a more industrial harness check out ebay, there were some new in box ones that were listed, or check out forestry ones also.

Sorry I took so long to respond but things have been busy. I am a mechanic for a redi mix plant but also do the plant repairs and maintenance. We also 3 telebelts on the job that have to be maintained. Working on the plant isn't to bad but the telebelts are a pain to climb around on with a harness on. Try lying down on your stomach or back with a harness on.Here is a pic of the telebelt.

Pricey but comfortable. One of the guys I worked with had one. He was in his and out the door before I could figure out where my leg went in my old style DBI/SALA.

Exofit is the way to go. Very comfortable and they offer click in connections. We wear them everyday while offshore and have never found one to be better.

Company pays for them so price is not object!
