I hope I'm putting this in the right place.

If I spray round,or the like, on my fence lines and borders this time of year will it have a residual affect in the spring to help me get e jump on spring weeds or am I wasting spray and time?

I don't like round-up on the fence lines... All the grass dies and weeds take its place. Some of the weeds are harder to wack than grass.

Glyphosate weed killers only work on actively growing plants. So, to answer your question, no. You need a pre-emergent type weed killer for that.

It would depend on the growth as was mentioned already. It is a bit late as Sept is a great time as the plants are pulling back you are able to get the glyphosate and others chems to get the roots very well.

Same here, you spray Round-Up and you'll have weeds come back every time.

Take a look at Pramitol. Spray in spring and maybe only time you have too. Be carful with it because it is a ground sterilizer and will move if applied before large rains but takes rain to move into root zones.

I am not formilar with Spike. But Spike looks to be similar but not sure the same. They both have soil activity, but Pramitol is a ground sterilizer not sure about spike. But to get spike to control a wide spectrum of weeds and grasses you must apply 5.0 lbs per acre and as that is a 2 year rate you must have skipped the previous year. So to me it's not a use every year product like Pramitol is. Maybe someone that is formular with it can help more.

i guess spike would be a ground sterilizer.it will kill for 3 years.you can get some growth on top of the ground, if there is enough water to move spike past the root zone.
