FALLING TREE SPLITS, KILLING WOODCUTTER
A Rogers man has been killed after a tree he was cutting down started to split and fall, hitting him on the head.
Billy Head, 45, a Rogers muffler and brake shop owner, died Thursday from the accident in a field near a church, Benton County Sheriff's Office spokesman Doug Gay said.
Head was cutting the tree with a chain saw and got halfway through it when the tree split and started falling, Gay said. The bottom part of the tree swung up and struck the man in the head, throwing him 12 feet, police said.
Head was cutting the wood with two other people and one of them called 911 on a cell phone. However, Head was dead when paramedics arrived.
