I got to give him some credit, he called his mom as he got to work after he got his ticket. He said it was his fault, he will pay for the lawyer, he'll pay the ticket, and however it hits our insurance, he is covering it.

The nice think is he's a great worker and has saved enough money over the year that he's already turned down a used Z4 and mustang (with his own money) after my mechanic told him what it would cost to get up to snuff.

For kid who works 35 hours a week and goes to high school, he seems to have it down.
odd he would have to pay for a lawyer. Here, unless you contest the ticket (go to court), you can just mail in the money

As mentioned, just to see what or if there are any options. This kid hit a home run on his first speeding ticket, believe me.

But, if you pay a lawyer, you don't go to court, the lawyer handles it. The question is if it's worth the money. Won't know unless you talk.

That sounds like a big "OOPS" to me. 😬

For the record, I don't think I've had a speeding ticket in the last 10 years. That said, when single and even married without no kids in the house, driving a lot of miles for work, I was known to have a pretty heavy foot at times on the highway.

Pleading guilty in NC to a speeding ticket will put points on your license and could affect your insurance. The key term at least in NC is "improper equipment". Pay the lawyer, don't show up for court, don't plead guilty, and it seems to magically disappear from your record (given you don't get a couple tickets a year I guess lol).

Phone call to a lawyer is free. They can give you your options and what they can do for you, and the option then becomes yours if you want to pursue it or not.

No different than buying a used car. Take it to a mechanic first to go over it in detail to see what it needs vs the asking price. Get a moving violation ticket driving? Go to a lawyer to see what options you may have to see if your screwed or if you have options.

Luckily, this boy was off his provisional license or I believe it could have been worse. Honestly, not certain, reason why I'd like to have him talk to someone familiar with NC driving laws / tickets.

My boys have definitely increased the Santa clause look in my beard and hair.

Other boy wanted to enlist in the marines. I ask him why not the Army? He tells me he doesn't want to be killed. I then ask him why not the air force like his grandfather, then he tells me there are too many gay people in the air force. He's read it up online so it has to be true.
Thanks for the lawyer lingo. Makes sense I guess. As for the other conversations about military service, I recall those. The things we thought we knew when we were young! :ROFLMAO:

Our family uses the life 360 app for our phones including our 3 kids. Free version tracks location and speed and shows a map history for the last few trips including max speed for that trip. A pay version gives you more safety options. Sure they could leave the phone but our stipulation is the phone always goes with you when driving and if you don't answer my calls privileges are lost. Luckily we are blessed with 3 very good kids.

X2 for the life 360 app. Shows the top speed for the trip. But not always current speed. Think it has more to do with our service provider then anything. Recently our phones keep getting throttled and the internet has been getting hinky.

Before the internet issue, it was showing my wifes current actual speed. Currently it will show her doing 5mph but then pop an alert when she finishes the drive showing that she hit a top speed of 84mph Yeah, she has a lead foot

I haven't had any of those issues on ours. Can always look up and watch a family members drive in real-time with speeds updated as the trip progresses. Usually speed has been accurate withing 1 or 2 mph.

It honestly doesn't make much sense to me. The best I can tell it's nothing but a money racket system created by the court system to keep lawyers busy. When I would get a ticket, my wife would always know because literally the next day in the mail I would get at least 10 letters from lawyers for about 3 days in a row. It was uncanny how quick they found out about it (and all from lawyers in the county where the infraction happened).

Is it true in Indian that if you get a ticket while driving, you only have 15 days to enter in your "plea"? In NC it's due the court day, which is generally 2 to 3 months after the ticket was issued.

At the end of the day, a lawyer in NC will generally run you around $200 for a moving violation (plus court costs). General total bill around $350. Perhaps I'm wrong in my line of thinking, but I'd rather pay that than just plead guilty (which I am of course) than run the risk of having my insurance go up and have the ticket on my record. Now, from what I gather, if you get multiple tickets a year, the court will put the hammer to you (never got more than one every couple of years when I did have a heavier foot so I guess I'm lucky that I don't know where they draw the line).

Appreciate the feedback on the app. From what I've seen on my son's trip yesterday, think this will do the trick. He was already on the app, and I'll get my other son on it as well.

At the end of the day, exactly how accurate it is isn't as important that our boys who are on are insurance know that they actually being held somewhat accountable for driving when we aren't with them.

They want to play go speed racer when they are adults and it affects their own insurance, they can do as they please.

The boy that got busted stated he wasn't watching his speedometer at all. First mistake on his end which hopefully will be corrected (hopefully the ticket will provide that source of motivation, but the app should help).

I will monitor mine tomorrow, as I'll be up in the mountains past Boone into Tennessee tomorrow to see how well it tracks me.

As noted, the boy in question was already on this app. What I did find interesting was his top speed on Friday when he got his ticket was actually around 7-10MPH slower than what he got busted for.

Technology is past scary. Red arrow pointing to my office where I'm typing this off this app. It's off of course, but still...

When our son got his ticket he had to pay the ticket and the increase in the insurance, it must have worked he hasn't had a ticket since and that was almost 10 years ago. Good luck
