Farewell to a dog

Love them with all you got today - so when that day comes
you know they had the best experience and happiness humanly possible. Its the only thing that will help you cope with the loss...to love a dog and recieve its warmth in return, it's one of lifes most enjoyable experiences and truly a blessing when experienced...

Sorry for your loss....

From a guy who is not sentimental, nor used to showing much emotion....Just wanted to thank the folks on this forum. There are some very nice and kind people here. The rain has stopped today, and the sun is shining.

Pete - Your post put a lump in my throat. Four years ago we had three dogs and now we have none. Every one was tough.

Hang in there. The memories will be sweet.

Pete,
It is with a heavy heart that I read of you loss. I understand the impression a Dalmation can leave in your life. Our oldest of the three is 11, having come from the shelter when he was about 4. Deemed vicious and placed in a pen behind a chain across the hall with a sign, "Do Not Enter", he was schedualed for the end on the next morning. Nancy, who was volunteering her time there, spirited him out just before closing. Despite threats from animal control, Baxter was about to enter my life. He has taught me more about about kindness and caring than I thought was possible. He is my constant shadow, his whole body wags when I come home and he howls at night when I'm away on buisness. I can't fathom life without him yet, your story reminds me that I will someday. I hope I can be strong and be there for him in his final hour.
Life marches on, as it does for all of us but, sometimes it's with a sadness and a sense of loss. In time I hope you can focus on the joy that was brought to your life and feel as lucky as I, for having such a wonderful friend.
Torin

I'm so sorry to here this, you have my utmost sympathy. I have a hard time reading these stories as it brings back memories. I can relate to it all too well. My last was four years ago, I let her out on a saturday morning for the usual business before I was off for the day and two hours later my wife found her all curled up in some moss in the woods. She was still alive, barely, I took her to the vet (I had to pull over at one point as my emotions took over my driving ability) and left her for a couple hours, vet called a couple hours later and said there was nothing he could do. He told us to come down after they closed and we could stay as long as we wanted before having to put her to sleep. When we walked in she could barely wag her tail but she did, we had are peace with her and she left us. I'm glad we when back to see her before she left us and I think she was too. You know, I think she knew it was time to leave, I just had that feeling. Vet said she had lupus and it attacked her liver. She was a pure black lab at ten and a half. Sorry to hijack your post Pete, but it just brought back so many memories, good and bad. Hope I get thru this post before the tears start shorting out my keyboard.
Again Pete and everyone else, my heart goes out to you. Every time I think of her I start to get the lump in my throat, but then I think that she would not want that and just want me to remember the good times not the bad.

I just got back to town and started to read the TBN Site, when I came across your post. I didn't want to open it, because I knew that it was about the loss of a dear friend. I know the love and affection that we give our pets, and the sweetness of that affection that they return. I am sorry to hear of your families loss, and I know well the love that you have lost with the passing of Alex. Please accept our deepest sympathies from my family to yours.... ditto all above,

It is a wonder to me how animals can be so much more than some people.
