Farm Pro 2420 Tractor

Roland, I have a Task Master and they are made by DF. While it appears to be a good tractor, (don't know still fixing it after 8 weeks /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif) do not buy from TM-Tractors or Tractors-Etc, they have severe QC problems.

( From my understanding, they have sold many types of chinese tractors in the past, including Jinma.

PS: Is that big new Kama arriving soon?
)
I guess I have been carrying around a false impression for quite sometime then, as I read this and have since considered TaskMasters to be of the Jinma bloodline. Perhaps TaskMaster changed suppliers since that webpage was constructed (?) or am I just reading it wrong.

KM454 due here Friday.

Greg, that is curious, as TM mentions on their website that they are not Jinmas. However, they were at one time a Jinma dealer. BTW, the manual John had was better than the one the dealer sent with the tractor, thanks for the link...

Back when this page was made, TaskMaster carried Jinmas, and only a few DFs, and an Avenger, that was made at DF. They have since gone to all DFs, I believe.

And a DF fits this.....??

Task Master is about as American a tractor as there is

 / Farm Pro 2420 Tractor #16
No, that is what I was saying in the post. The TaskMaster, made at the DF factory, has been "Americanized" by TM's requested specifications. I believe they claim it to be better suited to the american market than other chinese tractors. I haven't reviewed their website, recently though. I am sure other chinese tractor manufacturers might refute that. I certainly wouldn't call it the most american tractor.

But you can get parts form http://www.jinmaparts.com same with JM204 3cyl.

Well, I just bought mine, I really like it but I noticed all the fluids were low. I guess thats how they save money. Anyways, I filled the front to between the marks with some 80W-90 and I topped off the engine with 15W40 for diesels. I checked the hydralics and trans today and the trans has plenty of oil in it and the hyd isnt on the dipstick yet! Well, I emailed the farmpro tech folks and the guy told me the following:

The manuals that you got with the tractor is all we have at this point
in time

The egnine is 30w oil the dip stick is beside the injector pump
The trany is 40w oil the dip stick is beside the shifter
The lift is 30w oil the dip stick is behind the seat up on top
The front axle is 80 90 gear oil the dip stick is on the axle right or
left side
I hope this helps Thanks

SO, thats why the dealers are telling folks to put those fluids in there. I dont really care, I just want to make sure I put the right stuff in there. My trans or something is super loud (gear noise) but I noticed the other ones I drove were the same, not just the one I bought. Still much louder then what I am used to (Massey fergussen, Ford, stuff like that). Doesnt bother me, I just want to make sure its right. Some of it could be from the low fluid in the hyd system. The only other gripe I have is that its super hard to shift, not the gears so much as the range and the 2wd to 4wd. I almost bent the shifter for 4wd today. I drove it forward and then it would shift. Wierd. Other then that, its cool!

wildbill:

yes shifting form 2 to 4 wheel drive is best done on the fly. clutch is not even needed on mine for that just as long as you are going at a steady pace rather than accelerating or decellerating. also fir break in they do make some noise and that will get less as the gears mesh and break in. If you are using hi & low then the creeper gear is best left in HI range and that is the back shifter just under the seat.(unless you have a 304+ as they do not have creeper gear. My tractor only has 150 hrs but everything is now getting broken in nicely. shifting usually have to come to a near stop or else gear grinding is going to occure as they do not have syncro trans (at least mine does not but it is 2 yrs old.) Newer ones are getting them as I've heard.

ok as for fluids, drain that 30 weight stuff good at about 10 hr mark and re-fill with the recogmendations on JOHNs site. 80-140 in the front end, and 30 in trans, b303 universal hyd fluid in hyd tank and pull and clean the hyd intake filter under the seat. Make sure the drip plugs are removed form the brake wells and the front end drain has a plug under each outter spindle as well as in the center. the trans has 3 or 4 places, for draining and the hyd fluid behind & under the seat just above the PTO shield. the INJECTOR pump has 2 plugs for draining and uses 30 weight. keep an eye on it and there is a great photo on johns site showing it and how to change it.

Make use of his site it is an invaluable resource for trouble shooting as well as tech and specific info.
