Are you implying a Green tractor is comparable to an Orange tractor?:)

I don't park them next to each other in the shop, one on each side, so they won't bicker. :p

I went and looked at figures from by L3940HST from 10/08 22000. for the tractor/loader with no cab. 1120 for 2 sets of remotes. 700 for a Kubota 3rd function ( I didn't like the look of the WR Long). I did pay to have my tires loaded which you already have included.

I would look at Markham welding for grapple and pallet fork prices. You should be a be to get a grapple for 1000. depending on options and forks for close to 625.

Heck, I have to keep mine at different farms.

Got a preliminary quote today, didn't have all that I wanted. Salesman was going to send a supplement, but I told him to hold off and give me tonight to digest what I have. I need to research a little more.

Here's what I got:

Kubota L5740, HSTC-3 w/radio $ 30,478
or
Kubota L4740, HSTC-3 w/radio $ 27,507

Kubota LA-854 loader w/qt bucket $ 5,050

3rd function valve for loader $ 890
tooth bar for loader bucket $ 490
2 rear remotes $ 1,436
top-n-tilt 3-pt hyd. kit $ 818
66" front grapple $ 2,390
72" HD disc w/sealed brg. $ 1,090
72" King kutter HD tiller $ 1,985
Bush Hog SQ172 cutter w/slip clutch $ 1,982
72" HD united box blade $ 575
48" pallet forks $ 800
Premier front hyd. auger w 9" bit $ 2,850
set rear work lights for cab $ 110

Yes, there are a lot of blanks in this quote (e.g., brand & model #'s), but it's a start. I'll add more to my list and pin down some specifics tomorrow.

In general, what are your thoughts?

SBAKF: In the FWIW column, there is an L4740C with 118 hours currently on Ebay that seems spec'd the way you might want it. It's located in Florida. I'm not associated with the tractor in any way . . . just passing on info.

I agree with Mark here. The L4240 is the same basic chassis as the L5740, even uses the same loader. Substantial difference in price!!!! Frees up money to be spent on attachments. A BIG new tractor without attachments isn't worth much. I didn't read anything in your description that screams L5740.

Rule of thumb, the smallest HP tractor in a like chassis size is the best bang for the buck.

Congratulations and keep us posted!!! :)

Just some thoughts on your dreams...

I guess I have to disagree with the go smaller thoughts. I have 30 acres and just built a new house and have cleared a lot of old fence lines and dead trees. If you can't aford the attachments you need after buying a bigger tractor thats a very good reason to go smaller. I have horses so that may be a factor you are not worried about but I use EVERY bit of the 50 HP tractor that I have.

As far as clearing the land your self you should reconsider. I was going about things the DIY way and not making a lot of progress. I hired a contractor to take out a long fence line of big dead elm trees that I would have spent years trying to do. He did it in half a day for $500. I leveled a spot of my new horse shelter and it took me about three weeks worth of nights and weekends to get something kind of level. I contractor would of had it done in a couple of hours.

About buy a backhoe...I say rent the equipment you need to do a job. I was going to buy a backhoe to trench in water lines to my new pasture but ask around in here and was directed to rent a mini excavator. I spent about $600 on the excavator rental and had the job done in half a day.

Buy a grapple! you will find them about the best investment you can make considering the work you have in front of you. They are a real time/back saving piece of equipment.

Depends on which Green you have, My Red, Orange, and Oliver green never had any issues.

My RED and ORANGE get along fine, must be a GREEN thing. :D

Actually I think it might be an Orange thing as I had a JD 8345 and 8320 in the same barn as my 2660 for a while and the left front tire started going flat on it. I keep my JD 2305 at another farm nosed into the barn so it doesn't have to see my red tractors in another building. I just started using a Bobcat up there, so no telling what might happen now; may have to paint something.

mr sbakf: congrat on your new found freedom and . sounds like you're on a roll.....can't go wrong with anything you're considering...my only advice is also take some time to step back and look at the spending spree. you've earned your opportunity, and unless you've also struck a rich vein in your land, be careful not to blow precious resources for the lean times ahead....needs will present themselves along the way.....good luck! bb
