Farmall 100 grinding gears

Another thing to look for is a load on the pto.. if ther is a rotary mower on the pto it make put some pressure on the driveline.

However.. as the poster said.. he has 3" of pedal travel.. that's real excessive.. and needs to be adjusted.

Another thing to look at is the tranny setup.. on old fords, if your engine rea main seal or the tranny input shaft seal leaks.. oil can get slug n the pressure plate and clutch disc.. making them stick, and drag.

I havn't had a IH apart to see if this would happen or not.

I'd check that clutch free travel first.

I adjusted the clutch so the play is closer to 2 inches and put 140 weight oil in the tranny. Now it only grinds once in a while rather than all the time. I'll try the option of putting WD40 on the discs/splines and see if that cleans it up but it is definitely moving in the right direction. Thanks guys for all the help!

I have heard that if you press the stick back against the box in front of reverse that it can stop the gears spinning.

Try a heavier gear oil in the rear end! That migh help add some resistance to slow the shafts down to make it more shiftable!
