A friend bought a Farmall cub. The starter field stud was changed to bolt and they installed solenoid and push button. He wants to convert back to the mechanical switch that mounts on the starter with a pull rod. We bought the replacement field stud. It came with a bunch of different washers, 3 sizes, 2 of each, 2 look like fiber washers, and one nut, but no instructions.

Can anyone tell me what order the parts go to install it? I have not removed the starter or taken it apart. I assume the field winding(s)? will have lugs to attach them to the stud.

Usually when someone substitutes a bolt for the original starter bolt is because of the windings inside housing came loose and then heat melted the solder used to make a solid connection. Unless you have a large soldier iron (Not torch) to heat the soldier and experience in soldering the copper winding could short to housing. A starter repair shop can quickly do a proper repair and if other parts are needed will have in stock.

That is something that you do not want to tackle!----the damage to the starter is already done. IF the starter works---leave as is, if it is not working---send it to shop where they have the equipment to do proper job.
Wish my cubs had push button instead of that stupid pull rod! ----- TRADE YA! lol!!
