Thanks for the info and advice. I'm finally home again so was able to take some pics. Still not sure if it is a generator or alternator, but I'm sure you guys will be able to tell right away from the pics. I think it is running a 12v battery currently - hopefully that is the right voltage (it starts at least).

Thanks,

Dave

That's a honey of a Cub. Been looking for one in that condition for more than a year. The quest continues.

That appears to be a very old cub because it lacks the hydraulic lift that the later cubs had. As far as usefullness, that is bad, but for collectability, it is good. It even appears to have one original rear tire. If it were mine I would attempt to restore it to a 6 volt system. Without hydraulics, it aint worth much as a "user", but restored to original condition, it would have some good "collector" value.

Congratulations on your new addition! As far as what year you have, Cubs with the 4 bar grille fall between 1958 - 1964. After 1964 they changed to the square flat grille. Prior to 1958 the grille had multiple bars with a strip down the middle.
I have a 1963. As a previous post said, go to farmallcub.com for a wealth of info and tips. Enjoy!!

Nice front wheel weights.

Look at the area above the ignition coil.. follow the fan belt out.. you should find a genny there if it is a long cylinder.

Thanks again for the info. I'll check out farmallcub.com to try to date the tractor. If I ever restore it, I'll probably look into converting back to 6v.

66 was the first year for 12v on the cubs.. however.. I don't see why someone couldn't have swapped your old 6v gen for a 66+newer 12v gen and then just swapped the coil ( and any lamps ).. that would be all she needed to go to 12v.. etc.
