Farmi Winch Cable

I've got the thick stuff on mine and the thing that breaks are the cable crimps/saddles and if you get a kink. Not all cable is equal either, read up on the different types of wire rope. Some with wrap around a sheave better, some is stronger etc.

I'm not sure I would go with amsteel on a skidding winch. It great stuff for self recovery though!

The research I've done on Amsteel claims that if you have EVER used steel cable on your winch, you should replace ALL points where the steel rubs the winch as the Amsteel will not stand up to abbraision and you will break it in short order.
I'd go with either an additional length of steel cable or 100' of good rope (and a helper who knows WHICH knots to use)

amsteel blue is very strong, light weight and will float...we sell alot of it to offshore marine industry. It is not very abrasion resistant.
I have never skidded anything, but sounds like the rope would be dragged over obsticals when in use.
In a 5/16 diameter it would seem to me that a 6x26WS design would be a good choice. its design lends itself to be crush resistant on the drum and abrasion resistant. It has a breaking strength of 4.5-5 tons if I remember correctly. Have to double check that.............just got to work, the breaking strenght of 5/16" 6x26ws is 5.27 tons, with a design factor of 5:1, that gives a WLL of 1.05 tons.
maul man if interested shoot me a PM and I will give a price on what we sell it for, atleast it will give you a price to compare with your local suppliers.

Yes.
I'm just suggesting that for additional length, it is not necessary to go to the expense of replacing the existing cable (unless it is worn out) to accomplish your task.

Plus, you are downsizing the size which means less strength and more stress, and that leads to shorter life span.

If replacing, I too would look at the Amsteel "rope".

Thanks for the suggestions. I think I will just get an extra 100' length of cable to go with the cable that comes stock on the Farmi 351. I need to look at the Amsteel though.
