FarmTrac 535 Tappet Adjust

Can I rotate the flywheel through the small inspection hole on the left of the engine, or must I remove the starter on the right side?
The manual says nothing on this question, just advises rotating to TDC for cyl. #1, etc.
This is a 2005 model, 3-cylinder.

I do not know your tractor and this may be a stupid question but can you not rotate the engine with the crankshaft bolt on the front of the engine, the one that holds the belt pulley on the crank? That is how I adjusted my valves on a mitsubishi engine...

My previous tractor was a 1949 Ferguson with a 4-cyl Continental engine. Everything was wide open and easy to access. The Farmtrac front engine area is really tight with power steering pump, very tight clearance to fan, lots of tin outside, etc. Maybe I can access the nut from below -- have to try it with my wife watching the tappets to tell me when cyl #1 reaches TDC.

The other thing you might try to do is hook up a remote starter like this one 12 Volt Remote Starter Switch

I was able to lay underneath my Farmtrac 60 3 cyl diesel (same as the 555) and reach the big bolt on the crankshaft pulley and turn the engine. Hardest part was finding the timing mark on the rusty flywheel.
