Hi,

I am a farmer and purchased a 2006 Kioti CK20. It is a nice weekend warrior machine but I wish I had held out for the John Deere. The quality and design is just not there in the Kioti. Little things that break but lots of them and for the rigors of farm use, it just is not holding up nor does it have the power needed.

I purchased a Sims Cab with the CK20 and it is poorly constructed and customer service is terrible from them.

We have owned Fords, John Deere, Allis Chalmers, Kubota and Kioti. By far, the JD is superior. IF you can afford it, there is no other option that compares.

I don't say much and I read a lot more than I write but when I do say something, you can take it to the bank. I know there will be the flamers responding to this who speak often and know little so this is my only post on this subject.

The CK20 is a great tractor but far from a farming machine, so is the comparable JD. You could replace every part on that Kioti yearly and it would still be cheaper and stronger then the JD. I once had a QD come disconnected and that has been it for problems in 350hrs and 4 years. Oh yeah, my Sims cab is holding up pretty good. It could be better but then again it could have cost a lot more then $1900 too...

We're always interested in learning here on TBN, so please impart some of your farming expertise and educate us on why you were using a ck20 for daily farming chores. What type of chores? How many acres is the farm? Did a similarly sized JD do the job?

Would you please post the cost comparison chart item for item that I'm sure that you have constructed. I'd like to see this side by side comparison of the Kioti to the John Deere tractor.

Not a "flamer" here. I own both JD and Kioti.

Exactly what model JD would one compare to the CK20, a 2320? That's about as close a model match there is because the 2305 is a subCUT. Other than HP, the Kioti specs a little better. No doubt JD makes a great product. But, it would be interesting to see a cost comparison to see how much more that "better quality" costs you.

And none of these are hardly farm tractors anyway. One has to be careful when applying experience that they are making a fair comparison. You can't compare a utility tractor to a CUT of any brand anymore than you can compare a subCUT to a CUT. For example, I have a friend with a JD 770. Nice tractor; used it a few times and he's used it on my behalf. It's a good little tractor with the normal number of repairs over the years. But, my initial thoughts are that it's not the tractor that my Kioti CK25 is, in both quality and performance. I'm just not sure that the quality comparison is fair. Yeah, they are about the same size. But, the 770 is a much older design, more primitive. Should I then be lead to conclude that the CK25 is better quality? I can't say one or the other is better. Now, have I used a JD2520 that is JD's current model most closely matches the CK25 so that I can make a comparison? No. On paper the Kioti specs out better. And the CK looks beefier from general appearance. Is the JD better quality? Maybe, maybe not. Is it enough to justify the price difference ($5k - $6K)?

What problems are being seen on the CK20 anyway. Are they widespread across many users, or just isolated incidents? My limited experience is that a lot of the initial quality problems have more to do with dealer prep than overall design.

I hope we don't all have to be fan-boys to post in this thread. There is no reason to be defensive about CBB's opinion. Many of us are enthusiastic about the brand but experiences will vary. I recall CBB has complained in the past about the ability of the CK20 to mow in high range going up any incline....he was dead on with that comment. I may be misremembering but I recall he is a blueberry farmer so it is not like he's trying to pull a massive plow or anything but rather using it for chores and raking up after pruning. Again, I could be confusing him with another farmer who has a CK20 (and who was initially at least quite happy with it).

I would like to know more detail about what bits and pieces have been breaking on his CK20 though. Mine was a tough little beast and about the only things that broke were things I smacked into trees (rear light) or stumps (bent front tie rod) or branches (dented front grill).

While I would happily own another, I'd hope Kioti adds a three range HST to the CK20 to compete with the new Kubota B range and they could also add the quick attach FEL to make it even better.

I'm a John Deere owner who is very impressed with Kioti.

Quality of my 770 has been exceptional. Its built well and has had very few issues since I bought it. Basically I've only had to perform basic maintenance and there are still a few cosmetic isses to resolve. It has never once failed me and has performed tasks well beyond reasonable expectations.

I desire a 3 range hydro transmission, slightly larger chassis, wider stance and stronger loader. Hence the casual shopping for a new tractor.

JD's current line up does not impress me. The 3000 economy line and 2000 series tractors have 2 range transmissions. The 3000 series is much better but has some stability issues according to many posts here, which will be a problem on my hills.

I recently looked at the DK35. What a nice tractor! Nice features, strong specs, great fit and finish. Has the things I'm looking for: wider stance & bigger chassis, strong loader, 3 range hydro with dual peddles, and a host of other things I like. The build quality is very noticable on these tractors. The body panels are rigid and strong. The engine bay and components are well protected. The castings for the rearend and transmission appear beefy, yet well machined. Of the tractors that I have seen up close, this seems the best built and offers the most value.

Of the current offering by JD, Kubota, Kioti and Massey, I think I'm leaning towards the Kioti. I'd like to see a comparable Mahindra before I make any concrete decisions, but its definately the front-runner at this point.

I recently looked at the DK35. What a nice tractor!

If you like the DK35 make sure to check out the DK40se too. The only differences other than a few engine HP are a larger rear axle and much stronger loader. The 35 is a very nice tractor for someone who doesn't need the extra loader capacity but the upcharge to double loader capacity with the 40 is not much.
