Ok, since I inavertantly (sp?) hijacked a thread, thought I would ask this question since I haven't seen it before.

What's your favorite handgun/caliber and why?

Hopefully (sp?) it woun't become a 9mm vs .40 free for all /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

1911, 45acp.

.357 SIG for the SIG 229 auto pistol and .44Mag for the Thompson-Center single shot pistol, both work extremely well on wild hogs and the .44 has taken a couple of bucks as well. Handload each and every round.

9mm Browning Hi-Power for CWP carry.

Guess we both played a part in that as I egg'd you on a bit. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Trying to avoid the 9mm slams here, I carry a Taurus .357 5 shot revolver. Dont see the need for 15rds myself. Shot placement is what counts. I do like the .40cal, as a matter of fact thats what my wife carries, though again it is a Taurus Millenium. Decent gun but relatively cheap. My other truck sports a Ruger P-90 .45 , love that gun, very forgiving and can make anyone look good. Have been looking at the HK and Glock myself, just dont really need another handgun as I still have a couple packed away never beeing fired.

For hunting, I recently bought a Super Redhawk in .454 .Awsome revolver. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Killed 2 deer with it last year and it is now my prefered hunting weapon over my 30'06. The poor .41 doesnt see the light of day anymore either since its replacement. Maybe I need to goto the range. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I like all of em /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif right now I have been playing with H&K USP in .40 for general home stuff. While on the tractor I use a little snubnose .41 mag, easy to carry, and it makes short work of a snake, groundhog, dinosaurs etc...Wife likes the .38 and her little Glock 17 in 9mm.

I really need to get a .480 Ruger and a .500 S&W though. Do you think a gunrack for a AR15 on a CUT is a little too much?

How about "it depends". I own everything from .17 to a .50 BMG, and most everything in between. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif I've collected for decades and have 4 large 1500 pound safes completely full. The caliber and particular firearm in that caliber I pick depends on several things, not limited to, my mood, what I want to do, how I want to do it, what I'm wearing, where I am going, how long I'll be gone, what I may face, what I may not face, what states I may cross, who is with me, and how long I'll be out.

The other day it was fun to have my .454 Casull in one hand and my S&W .500 in the other. However, after 2 boxes of 500 grain shells, I no longer wanted to shoot that caliber. The .50 BMG is great fun, but most ranges won't allow that caliber, and several states have issues with using it for hunting. (which I don't get; it is really unlikely to just injure something with that caliber and have it suffer)

Sigarms,

Anything that I can shoot acurately. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Happen to carry a SW 4506-1 45 currently. I much prefer a 45 over a 9 Might Make It but I have carried a SW 5906 as well. I really like the 10mm since it has such a power range. Its a shame that the 10 did not stick around. Course a .40 is nothing but a short 10 which is kinda my point I suppose.

I have been thinking about a 38/357 six gun but it just thinking.

For some strange reason that is not fathonable to me I want a SW 500. Big booming rounds don't have an appeal to me but for some reason that six gun has my attention. I can't imagine really shooting it for fun and as a deer round its overkill so to speak. It makes no sense for me to have one. I am sure I will never get one but I WANT one. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

But I had fun shooting my old .22 with shorts the other day with my daughter and her grandda. We had hearing protection but did not need it. Shoot that thing all day for nothing and it bothers no one.

Later,
Dan
