Fed up with the garden

I have 6-12 months of food on hand at all times. A lot of folks do not think that way.

If the SHTF, folks that are not prepared will take what they want/need from those who have stuff. It will not just be shelter, food, and water. When order breaks down, you will need to protect your tools, guns, a pretty wife or daughter...you get the picture.

Unprepared folks will be the initial threat if the SHTF. They will either starve or try to steal from others. And people like me will kill you. That is how things work.

You should read the book One Second After. Early in the book a couple of guys are caught stealing food. They are executed by the leader of the town. The young guys talk about their "rights" and are too stupid to realize they have no rights. It seems ludicrous that men would be killed for stealing food...but that will be the new reality.
I seen this happen in real life, and you are correct sir.

Don,,,,,,,do you really think that your hunting skills are going to keep out a mob of starving people? Lots of luck on that if the chit hits the fan.:ROFLMAO:

And like one of the other posters ......if that happens I don't want to be around anyway. IMHO. And like Paul Newman said in a movie....." we all are gonna die...........it's just a matter of when".

Cheers,
Mike

Are you saying you're going to be out there pillaging and looting if there's a breakdown in law & order? Thanks for the heads up, glad you live a long ways away.

I don't buy into the whole doomsday prepper paranoia. In the unlikely event that all that goes down, I'm not sure I'd want to be here anyway.
That's my viewpoint, also. Do I really want to spend my days and nights living in constant paranoia that somebody is going to take what I have? It seems like some people already do live that way.

Heck no. Hunting is of little value. I placed second in the state championship one year, was captain of the university rifle team and one of the top shooters on the pistol team. Also competed for decades. I am not too shabby with any gun.

We will have a “tribe” of 50-70 people. Where we live, there are only three ways in by dirt road or two track. Not too difficult to defend

The tribe will have ex-military, State troopers and local Sheriff members.

The locals will not be dumb enough to tangle with the well known family that forms the core of the tribe. This family is one of the top bear and coyote hunting groups in the state. Outsiders will move to easier victims…if they survive.

You are right, we will all die eventually. Some sooner than others. Those who die first might have useful assets we can use or barter with. If not, we will have about 40 hunting dogs that need feeding.

Nothing wrong with wanting to die early. Just not how I am wired. Hope to make it until the worst is over and some semblance of order is restored.

The events that occurred in Bosnia /Chechnya region not so long ago shows the possibilities.

Groups formed in mutual protection. Many survived that would not have.

Learn from history!

I live in a rural cul du sac of 6 families. Two nights ago, roughly 3 am, A vehicle proweled through. The gal next door had her vehicle broken into with items taken. We are not accustomed to such violation. Now, we all worry about our possessions. They own us!

On the GARDEN note:

The garlics were pulled up today between rain showers. The mosquitoes were brutal!

The garlics look fantastic! I grow 70 bulbs each year. enough for a years consumption, and seed for the following year. The bulbs are hanging in the shed to cure. Three to four weeks. There are six bulbs in the crock from last year. I can smell the garlic toast now! ;-)
