Fed up with the garden

I'd rather be put down like an old dog than eat mushy green beans and cream corn out of a can.
Fresh tater out of the garden with fresh dill and sour cream a medium well done prime rib with fresh asparagus and a crispy salad with fresh tomatoes and cukes. That's living.
Canned most anything is just surviving until the radiation kills you.

Good. More for me when they euthanize you because you are too costly to keep alive in Kanuckleland with your wonderful socialized medical system. The bustards will not treat my 100 year old mom..."because she is too old".

I am lazy but smart enough to stay fed without rototilling, planting, watering, spraying for bugs, putting up fencing, weeding, harvesting and canning. Did that for too many years and it was not worth it.

As some people get old, they learn lessons along the way. Others are doomed to repeat the same mistakes until they are too crippled up to live like a pioneer. If I make it to assisted living, I will not have to "adapt" to canned food. And I won't be turning down dinner it it is offered anywhere.

Ha, my garden nor my chickens save me any money. I don't grow enough food to make it worth the while but it gets me out of the house. I give about 75% of my eggs away to kids and parents. Garden is just a hobby and sometimes I give it all away, most times in fact.

Our pears were harvested by deer sometime in the last two days. Not sure how the fence got broke down so they could get in?

Well that sucks! Get yourself a permit and start filling the freezer.

One thing I've noticed is that you can't buy the flavor of a fresh tomato from the garden. Grocery store tomatoes have no flavor. My brother was visiting from CO recently and said he can't grow a garden but he misses Indiana tomatoes.

Fresh vegetables from a garden do have much better flavor then any canned product. Then good home canned and lastly are the commercial canned goods.

What a #^*@( f S--t show this year.
Got a few zucchini early in the week. Went out 2 days later half the plants collapsed and are done for.
Water melons and cantaloupe have been in for over a month and have hardly moved same with cukes.
The different squashes seem to have gotten powdery mildew.
Potatoes were looking good and now have an invasion of potato beetles.
Corn appears frozen at about a foot.
Tomatoes have gotten a blight and are dying from the bottom up. Same with the egg plant.
Beans? Don't even ask.
Only thing doing well are the sunflowers, over an acres worth. I like the flowers and the birds get into them. All sorts of yellow finches every year.
But the edibles are all doing poorly.
Haven't done anything differently.
I rotate the location of the garden plot every year. Never had a problem where it currently is.
Neighbors plots look good.
Looks like I'm going to be shopping at the local market this year.

There are a few "Dump" haters on this site but most rural folks have common sense. The few I know who voted for Sleepy Joe have the common sense not to talk about their choice. They know Dump was better.

BTW, all those Hollyweirds who swore they would leave the USA and go to Canada if Dump won decided to stay here. Too bad really...but typical liberal BS. Even half brain dead "stars" know the US is better than Canada.
