Gee, emotional post. Thanks for giving me permission to shoot . And calling someone a "pilot" flying a drone is like calling myself a Navy Seal when I play Black Ops on Xbox.

I did preface pilot with drone lol. What would be a better descriptor?

Drone flyer maybe could work. I guess technically you could do remote control operator.

Doesn't really describe what you're controlling though.

Remote controlled drone operator is descriptive

I originally said "drone pilot". UAS is a better description of the commonly used drone but I think he was upset with the use of pilot.

Can't please everyone, that's for sure.

I believe FAA calls them pilots. Seems to be the accepted term.

Just guessing here. Wouldn't the required multi tasking skills required be similar to a helicopter pilot? Or maybe I should say helicopter operator....

OK, I stand corrected with the thought that if a Pilot infringes on privacy, they are no longer pilots. :2cents:

My father serving as an F.O. on the MLR in Korea in '51 nudged his R.O.K. sergeant and pointed down at a lilly pool halfway down the mountain and popped a lilly pad. Undaunted, my father says his R.O.K. sergeant pointed up at an egret circling high above them, lined up his rifle and popped it out of the sky. My father said it was the best shot he'd ever seen in his life.

That said, I bet popping a small target at 400 feet would be very hard as there isn't any feedback as to where the bullet went.

That's a pretty amazing shot by anyone's standards. My last post was based on the assumption that the drone was hovering in one place; hitting a moving drone would indeed be very challenging. In my misspent youth, I have wasted a lot of .22 rounds shooting at soaring turkey buzzards, often moving very slowly, and the best I can claim is I succeeded in startling a couple of them.

If he had tendency that way, he probably would...I'm betting a dead buzzard on top of the house would smell up the whole county for a month or two! Everyone I know who has killed a buzzard said "never again".

Not if you drag the carcass down and toss it in the pond for the gator to eat. There will be no smell whatsoever.
