Hi Guys,

I am heading out to look at the following JD X720 which has 66 hours on it. As you see by the photos, it comes with the ROPS hard cab as well as the rear weights, the 47 in snow blower, he 52" broom, quick-hitch, hydraulic lift and turf tires. Here's the question... Will the X720 do a good job removing snow on a driveway with a slight incline if I DO NOT want to use the tire chains? I ask as I recently had a long concrete driveway put in that is stamped/colored, and I'm concerned the chains will scratch the stamped/colored finish. The prior driveway was gravel, so I used a snow plow service to take care of the snow accumulation. I know I would likely be better off with a 4WD or 4WD/AWS unit, but the following X720 is being sold for $12,000 and is a local private party. I do have 2 1/2 acres of grass, which will require me to buy a 54 inch cutting deck. So, all said and done, I will have over $14K invested in this X720. (Thoughts on the asking price?? They are actually asking $14K, but will take $12K) I do like the idea of the ROPS heated cab for those frigged Minnesota winter days.. I'm open to thoughts and feedback. Thank you! David

I was under the impression you could install some feet (ideally plastic) feet to lift the edge off the surface to avoid scrathing... I imagine the feet are primarily intended for gravel roads..

You would need plastic feet and a plastic edge on the bottom edge of the blower. You may also need to switch to HDAP tires (such as Carlisle HD Field Trax) to replace the "bite" lost by ditching the chains.

burlroad, where do you live? how deep your snow is gonna be will affect your performance, obviously.

Does the 720 have a rear diff lock? I would think that should be enough to keep moving on concrete with a blower, even without chains. With no diff lock, you're gonna get stuck and annoyed.

Need a rubber edge like what these guys make - Rubber Cutting Edges | PlowRubber Products. They will make rubber edges for loader buckets, plow cutting edges and snowblowers. I was going to call them to see if they would make an edge for my MK Martin snowblower.

IMO $14000 is too much to sink into a lawn tractor, especially used and probably a gasser. I would look into a new scut (subcompact utility tractor)with 0% 60 or 72 month financing. You would get a heavier duty tractor, diesel, four wheel drive, 3pt hitch and many other advantages. Another option would be a used scut.

I 2nd OrangeGuy's opinion. In fact, it is exactly why I chose JD 1026R over X700 series. Since I have been using the 1026R for 3 mos., my opinion is now factually-reinforced.

Highly recommend going SCUT / CUT for that kind of loot. :)

Agreed, I missed the price earlier. MSRP for a BX2360 with a 60" deck and a 50" front blower is $17k and its quite a bit more tractor. A 1023 or 1025 Deere is similarly priced.
Looking more, it appears that the tractor in question also has a 52" broom in the package.
