FEELING GOOD ABOUT MY 4110 PURCHASE

Kennyd-
I too have been reading your posts with interest! I am looking forward to your ideas for a light for 4WD. I've only had my 4110 for a month and am still compiling my list of things I want or want to do when I get either the time or the money! I don't know if I will be able to do some of what you are doing or not , but it is awesome to at least read about it. I'm more at home with a hammer and saw. Keep your posts coming. Jason

In addition to a light for 4wd, the 4x1x series needs a glow plug light. I put a connector on a glow plug and run it through a light. It lights when you turn it to the position between "on" and "start". It's almost impossible to find this position without the glow light indicator. Otherwise, you put selector lever in L or H and turn to "start" count off 1 or 2 seconds now and 5 in the winter, then put selector in N with key still on "start". Starts instantly.

I am not sure a GP light is neccessary, The only reason I can think a light would be usefull is if there was a timer/temerature circuit to go along with the light, Like my Ford truck with the "Wait to Start" light. Having a light just to show the GP circuit is energized would not aid in letting you know when to start, that would still be up to the operator. Pulling up the PTO switch or puting in gear to let the GP's heat up would still need to be done regardless of the light.
Just my opinion.... /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Kenny, I can hear the difference between 2WD and 4WD the second the wheels start rolling. I would, however, love to see an automotive-style seatbelt retractor and stock temp guage. It might be nice to be able to step down on the 4WD lever a second time to take it out of 4WD, just like most modern automotive parking brakes work.

......I agree with most of the ideas....I would also like a step, like on the larger 4000 midframes.......it is not that the tractor is huge, but why do you have to step up so much, when they could have put a small step to make life easier /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

My 4310 falls right in the middle of the 4000 mid frames, 4210, 4310, 4410, and it has a step.

I have a 410 loader on my older JD 4100 which is similar to the new 4110 (slightly less HP and hydro flow).

Digging capability was improved tremendously by three accessories:

1. Tooth bar to break up our rock-hard clay.

2. 1000 lbs of total rear ballast between wheel-weights and ballast block to make the back stick to the ground when the bucket is heaping full.

3. Tire chains for rear turf wheels when used in wet clay.

For light lifting and minor chores, I use the MMM as ballast because its convenient (almost always already on tractor in summer), but tipping capacity is about half of what it is with the full amount of ballast.

Read my post in this section about the 50 hr service on my 4010. It'll very likely apply to your 4110.

The owner's manual leaves out some critical information about getting to the fuel filter and hydraulic filter. Had to take a rear wheel off to get at the hydraulic filter, in order to slide the bar for the 3 pt out of the way.

In another post, I show a picture of the replacement to the check hole plug for the LX4, in case you get one of thse.

I just talked to my dealer. Tractor should be here in about 1 hour. I did look at your thread Ralph, should be helpful. I am getting a 60' rear mower which will likely stay attached all mow season for my ballast needs. And I'm sure the 72' rear blade will work fine for clearing and ballast this winter. Unfilled r-4s hopefully wont pose a problem in winter.. Also I cant believe that a bucket level indicator wouldn't come standard. Mine has one but I couldn't believe I needed to check. Also seen some discussion on bucket float, Not only did my Ford come with level ind. but float was all the way forward, two possitions for lowering. I haven't tried the jd bucket yet but would imagine it's the same basic thing. Still I cant believe a bucket would come without a level ind. I hope jd isn't that petty that they would charge for a rod and tube.

Ralph, looks like you’ve found a few more finer points of distinctions between the 4010 and 4110. Transmission screen is directly accessible from the rear of a 4110, to the lower left of the PTO output shaft. Don’t have to remove any of the 3 point linkage to get the screen out for maintenance. The hydraulic filter is located above and to the side of the mid PTO. It can be removed and installed with the right rear tire attached. Based on my short term of ownership, I believe the 2210 hydraulic filter is located on the underside of the rear axle/transmission housing---kinda hangs right out there, pretty easy to service. Transmission screen cleaning on a 2210 is documented elsewhere, located on the rear housing, accessible from the underside of the tractor.

I too wish for an analog oil temp gauge on the 4110. Going to add something to carry chains, probably some sort of box welded to the quick hitch frame. Been scouting for a set of pallet fork tines to build up a set……want to rig something up to move older/vintage snowmobiles. They weigh about 430lbs or so, would like to be able to pick up from the rear so they could be placed on storage racks/into PU truck beds. Not entirely sure my 4110/410 combo is up to that task though.

Hey Stormchaser, I hope you have a nice sunny day & roll up a dozen hours
