Feels Like The Parking Brake Engaged and its Not ??

Hi Everyone, GirlTractor here again with a new challenge..

I feel kind of stupid because i think this is a fluid issue...i just don't know which one.

Description of Problem with my John Deere 2520: I'm in the middle of digging a trench with my tractor and all of the sudden it starts driving hard. Have you ever started your vehicle and started driving and it feels like it is straining...and you realize that you have your parking break on?...that is EXACTLY what my tractor felt like all of a sudden in the middle of using it when i pressed on the gas. so i parked it to let it cool down and tried it again a couple hrs later and it is still doing it. I was able to raise my front end loader bucket with no problem

FYI...

-no dash board lights came on indicating a problem, it didn't start smoking or get to hot, or shut down. I did engage the parking brake and unengaged it half a dozen times to see if has a freak thing with the brake

How old is your tractor and how clean in your fuel? Do you have an inline fuel filter and another filter inside your fuel pump? Can you blow out your fuel lines to make sure nothing is restricting the flow through them?

I've had this feeling on my Deere 4200, and found it to be weak retract spring on one of the brake linkages, that didn't release the internal brakes. I assume your tractor has the same setup. If you have someone step on the brake pedals and watch the linkage, you'll see how the brake pedals cause a shaft to rotate that goes into the tractor, which causes either an internal cam or ball and ramp actuator to apply the brakes. Note that the parking brake lever uses the same linkage to apply the brakes. Worth checking out.

Park it on a slight hill and put it in neutral just to see if the brakes let go or are stuck. That should narrow down the focus.

I have a three point hitch backhoe on my tractor. Couple years ago I suddenly lost power and could not figure it out and posted a question here.

Someone suggested that I check my three point hitch lift lever, as the symptoms I was experiencing could be the result of the lever being up and the three point hitch fighting against my backhoe.

I couldn't believe it but that was the answer. Somehow the three point hitch position lever got pushed into the raise position. Putting it back into the down position cured my issue. Perhaps you have something simple like that causing your problem.

Hi All, thanks for feedback. Turned out to be the brake stuck. I engaged and unengaged emergency brake a dozen times and it took care of the problem..maybe something was wedged. Wish all repairs were this EZ ! Thank You Again

Good stuff... now take the time to spray-lubricate all of the moving linkages so that it doesn't happen again.

It's one of those annual maintenance things that isn't really mentioned in an Owner's Manual. The manual says to grease the various nipples (zerks), and hopefully, where they are all located, but rarely reminds you to spray lubricate everything that moves but doesn't have a nipple.

I use a lanolin based spray lubricant, but I'm sure that others will 'pipe up' with their recommended favourites.

On my 855 I have to push down on the parking brake lever and press the brake pedal to get it to release completely. If I set the brake then just press the brake pedal to get it to release it doesn't release complete.
