I don't have any experience with this but it seems that a boom pole might work if you have the tilt capability on the boom pole. Anyone with boom pole experience think this might work?

Skidder chokers

The kind of chokers I was refering to are the newer cable type. But the chain ones would work also. What ever type you could find. Check industrial dealers (Deere,Cat,or loging equipment dealers)

Hayden,

Do you have solar panels? If so, do tell more.

Lean poles at about 30 degrees against something,
pull up to pole, place bucket bottom lip 4.5 feet
from bottom and curl so top lip is also against post.

Wrap a 5/16 chain around pole at top around back of
bucket and around pole again at the bottom. hook chain
together and snug with binder.

use old carpet scrap to protect pole and paint.

you will need to curl bucket as you are raising so pole
clears front end of tractor. If your loader does not have
enough reach to clear front end, lean poles more vertical.

Wow. I forget, living in Vermont where only the valleys are flat, that others are able to see from one end of their land to the other...with no mountains or trees in the way. I also forget that other places have soil that doesn't end in granite at a depth of one foot! /w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif On the other hand, if I needed to sink a pole that big I'd simply chop the crown off a tree and call it a pole! /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

My place in vermont is completely off the grid. Solar with backup propane generator. I hope to add a small hyro system some day too to take up the slack in the winter when the sun barely creeps above the tree line for an hour or too. No wonder it's so darn cold up here in the winter.

Hayden,

This link is to a home Hydro that is ugly as a mud fence but the fellow has had it working for many years and serves his needs pretty darn well. It's not what you would call high tech, but maybe thats why it works so good. Neat Rig

Re:Solar Power

RichNJ - If you are interested in solar/wind/hydro power, you should check out Home Power magazine. Their web site http://www.homepower.com also has a lot of usefull info and includes a lot of their articles and past issues.

I'm building a new home, and will be using solar hot water intitially, then eventually add a grid-intertied wind or solar setup. This magazine has been a real help.

Good articles. I've never looked at any of the back issue articles before from HomePower.
