LimbSaws by Priefert | Home
Thinking about ways to adapt a chainsaw to a boom on a front end loader--Would the Worx JawSaw have any potential to be mounted to a boom with some type of actuator to move the chainsaw across the jaws? Also wondering, since it's 120 VAC, whether an inverter powered by the 12 VDC tractor system drain the battery in a hurry. I believe the 5 amp rating of the saw on 120VAC would translate to about 50 amp draw on the tractor 12V battery assuming there is no loss thru the inverter.
Just sort of thinking out loud here as I need to come up with a way to trim those high branches. Would like to hear some thoughts and suggestions.

I purchased a limbhog a couple years ago and like it a lot. Takes 7-8 GPM to operate.

I have a gas powered pole pruner but need to reach up a bit higher. I only need to trim a few trees around the house and thinking in terms of a poor man's version of the Limbhog. I do appreciate the responses received so far and look forward to more. I hire the trimming along the street which is done with a bucket truck aka cherry picker but it's too heavy for the lawn.

Do those ever get hung up in a tree when a branch twists? I would hate to get a boom mounted saw hung up 15' high :(

I like the idea a lot but the cost is more than I can justify. IDK if I want a boom mounted saw, I've always thought more about a large chain saw mounted directly on the side of a bucket. I'm looking more for trimming alongside trails rather than a need to get 20' high in a tree.

The saw can get hung up. Reversing the chain rotation generally releases it. Also it seems to make sense to cut some of the weight from the big limbs by cutting farther away from the trunk to start with. On limbs up to 5 or 6", the saw is aggressive enough to cut thru the limb prior to the branch sagging enough to cause a pinch. In my opinion these saws are mainly for farm tree rows to keep tree encroachment at a minimum.

The perfect thing for trail/roadway maintenance are those boom mounted flails or sicklebars. They can also be used around ponds or at ground level of course. Kinda pricey though.
