FEL controls after third function added - Mahindra 5155

Good Day All:

Bare with me here. I have a new 5155, just picked it up Friday (23 JUN 23). The dealer installed the WR Long third function kit, which replaced the OEM Mahindra control top, and the third function works very well. I spent all day Saturday (24 JUN 23) learning the tractor, putting in work on my property. Setting up the box blade, learning how to operate the root grapple, and changing out implements and using the bucket.

Here is my question. The joystick seems counter-intuitive to me. Facing forward, sitting in the seat as driving the tractor, the joystick is operated with the right hand. The way my tractor is set up, if you push the joystick forward, towards the front of the machine, the bucket curls down. If you pull the joystick to the rear, the bucket curls up. If you push the joystick to the right, away from the tractor, the loader arm raises in the air, if you pull the joystick towards you, to the centerline of the tractor, the loader arm lowers down. The third function switch works well, one button opens the grapple, the other button closes it.

This seems incorrect to me, the way the joystick is wired.

For me, if I push the joystick forward, it should lower the loader arm. Pull it back to the rear, should raise the loader arm. Push it away from the tractor, to the right, the bucket should curl up, pull it towards me, to the centerline, the bucket should dump.

What is the correct movement for this tractor? Am I incorrect?

This is my first tractor, so I don't know what I don't know. I just know that the way it works, my brain was having a very hard time getting it to sync with me. If it is incorrect, I don't want to learn it incorrectly.

Let me know your thoughts. If it IS incorrect, I will take it back to the dealer and have them fix it.

Your thoughts (4th paragraph ) about the joystick movement are probably the most "normal" way the FEL is set up. You don't like the way it's currently set up - contact your dealer to make changes.

Mine is set up as you suggest - 4th paragraph.

Yes that is incorrect but it's an easy fix though.

Engine off, move the joystick in every direction till the loader doesn't move anymore.

Then you'll need to swap the hoses around so it matches the correct operation. I suggest contacting the dealer, have them swapping the hoses and while there, teach you about removing and installing the loader, along with connecting the hoses in the right places.

your assumption is correct, it is in the normal operation, clearly they didn't hook it up right, big shock they didn't check it either.

Good day all:

I wanted to update this post and let you all know how I fixed the issue. It looks like the dealer / tech when they installed my kit, they rotated the joystick 90 degrees in it's cradle. All hoses were hooked up properly, but the function was off. All the color coded hoses matched, so I did not want to just start switching hoses around.

I unbolted the metal cover and then took the two bolts out that hold the joystick assembly to the tractor. I rotated it 90 degrees counter-clockwise, which gave the proper movement to the FEL. Now, when I pull back to the rear of the tractor, it raises the boom, push forward towards the front of the tractor, it lowers the boom. Push away from the centerline of the tractor, it curls the bucket down, as if you were dumping the bucket, pull in towards the centerline of tractor, it curls the bucket up.

The two push buttons on the WR Long Kit, that operate the third function, I reversed them. That way, if I press the upper button, it opens the grapple, the bottom button, lowers / closes the grapple.

Now it works as it should.

Absolutely LOVING this tractor. She purrs like a kitten!

did you check the float positions?
also my WR long kit has the 3rd function opening with the up button, sounds like your dealer wired both backwards, did you check to make sure the tractor is not upside down LOL.

I just got my 5155 about 5 weeks ago 7/31/23. The diverter valve was installed and at pick up the tech told me it was the first of the new style controls where buttons are forward and back vs top and bottom. That really takes some getting used to because I’ve also have a cab Kubota 6040HDC I bought in 09 and the 3rd fx buttons are top and bottom. I have to be really cautious of that when unloading and feeding out 1100 lb silage bales. Hate to drop one on something that doesn’t need to be broken

You should have both tractors setup the same way. I have mine setup pullback and the arms go up Push left and the bucket curls.

It is super easy to switch the directions if you have quick release connectors.
