Fel Float Break through

Count me in as completely confused. Does Deere do it differently then everyone else? I have always simply pushed the loader control past the loader down position to float. It's the one marked float on mine. While I very rarely find a need for it, there are a few occasions. I just never thought there was an education process involved. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I'm with you RaT and Big Al,

All three of my Deere's with hydraulics you just snap it into float position -- no need to be three feet off of the ground (although it will do that too). I think some linkages need to be adjusted. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I have read members talking about FEL floating and really didn't understand it until I read a post last night. I had to dig a grave for a neighbor's horse today but had clear snow from a road and the digging area first (4310/430/48BH). I tried the float technique on my FEL and man, what a difference. No digging in or scooping up gravel and dirt. It just clicks in when you push forward on the stick. I lift the bucket up first so the wheels don't come off the ground when I push forward. Thanks for the info and I really love my JD4310!!

JDFANATIC,

Yes, we are complicating the simple, though some folks seem to be benefiting from the discussion.

I'm the one who mentioned the bucket three feet off the ground, I didn't really mean to go out of your way and lift the loader just to drop it again. It's just that in normal operation the bucket is going to be off the ground when you engage float, like when your moving snow, at the end of the push you lift and dump your bucket, as your backing up you level the bucket again and hit float just before changing direction for another pass that way your bucket is on the ground and your ready to go, it's all one fluid motion with no stopping.

I don't have alot of experience with FEL's but have been plowing snow with truck mounted plows for 25 years and those blades are just floating, So it seems to me no mater how you use a tractor for snow, whether it's a FEL, a front blade or a back blade you need to use float.

Sorry to drag this topic out, maybe this can be put to bed now.

The float is difficult to snap into when compared to other loaders I have used. Its a very handy feature.

I'll say it again,,

Where are these salespeople that are selling these tractors?
Who is going over features and operation of the tractors
with customers? I can't believe there are as many folks out there that aren't aware of simple operational features of the tractor as "float" on the DSCV.

sorry, it just bugs me thinking what else isn't being discussed on delivery of these new toys, er, tractors.

glad you are all understanding this. I don't think it is all that hard to activate the float, and the more you use it, the easier it will be to use and more natural it will come.

Float On!

Good morning

I agree with you. After reading threads on "float" for a while, I cannot believe how much trouble folks have with this.

Along with salespeople going over the features of the tractor, I also believe that it is every operators responsibility to read the manual. That's how I figured out float. I went to page 20-1 of the manual and there it was. I just kept pushing the control level fast and harder until it finally engaged.
