Hey List,

I don't know if this classifies as a full "Attachment" but here it is:

I was at the scrap metal dealer and saw some 3" steel pipe.. so I snaged an 8 foot piece for about $10.00.

I Cut it to 72" and weled some tang's on it so I can bolt it to the front edge of my FEL. I'm hoping this will keep me from taking all of the "new to us" re-claimed asphalt off of the road when I push snow. I tested it on a section in the yard, and it did not dig up the grass at all <Last pic>. Does this thing have a name? or do I get to name it?

It's suppost to snow 3" here tonight / tomorrow... so I may get to check it out.

I was going to paint it orange... but thought that would be too audacious for such a complicated attachment! <grin>.

Phill

You will like it.I made one similar last winter.Only I made it out of 1 1/2" black iron and attached it like you would a tooth bar.The curve around the edge of the bucket really helps it from digging in to. Maybe I'll get to use it if we ever get any snow up here. Tim

Tim,

Great idea attaching like a tooth bar, and the 90* bend at the ends is an excellent idea too. How do you bend 1.5" black iron pipe?

I mounted it on the bucket before it was bent, then heated it with torches cherry red and had a crowbar stuck in the end of the pipe and just kept heating and bending. If you have access to pipe bending equipment though that would be the way to do it.:D Tim

Just a thought. It may also be useful for back filling trenches with the FEL. So you wont tear up a lawn.

Same idea has been around for a while using pvc, usually less expensive and perhaps less scrapes to the asphalt. Works well for clearing snow from gravel drives without digging. There is a thread close about clearing snow from gravel and perhaps photos of pvc thingie.

Nice design Tim. That gives me an idea of what to do with my toothbar mounting holes during the winter months when the toothbar is off.

Dang, I keep finding new things to make faster than I can get them built.

Hey Matt,

I goto C&M Metal. They have new stuff in the building, but if you go into the yard (just north of the large building) and wander around.. it's like a toystore in that yard! When I was there it was 40 cents a pound for steel $20.00 minimum.

Phil:

Thanks for the tip on C & M. That's a long ways from me; but relatively convenient for you. However the next time I'm down in that area, I'll have to stop in and take a look. Based on C & M's web site picture, the place looks similar to K & K Surplus where I get most of my stuff as they are closest to me. K & K Surplus - Home Page I've also started buying some stuff from Altitude Steel when I can't find what I need at K & K. www.altitudesteel.com If you want aluminum, then ALRECO is a place to check out. ALRECO Aluminum Surplus & Supply ALRECO's web site is worthless; but if you want aluminum, they probably have it. I think ALRECO is cash or check only. I don't do much with aluminum; but when I do need some, I go there first and it's close to home.
